This role offers the opportunity to help shape a new engineering function focused on transforming how homes are designed, specified, and connected to real-world products.
The Software Engineer will build end-to-end solutions that bridge digital home design with materials catalogs, pricing, availability, and purchasing workflows.
You will work on complex, high-impact systems involving user experiences, backend architecture, data models, and business logic.

The Software Engineer, Materials will take ownership of designing, developing, and scaling software solutions that support a new materials and purchasing platform. This role requires strong technical execution, product thinking, and the ability to solve complex system challenges.
- Build and maintain full-stack product features across user interfaces, APIs, business logic, and data models.
- Develop systems that connect digital home designs with real-world products, materials, pricing, inventory, and purchasing workflows.
- Design and implement rule engines that manage pricing logic, availability requirements, and complex product selection constraints.
- Enhance and expand data models to support connections between design decisions and physical product purchases.
- Create scalable, maintainable architectures that support the growth of a new product vertical.
- Build configuration and selection experiences that help users navigate complex and interconnected choices.
- Optimize backend performance through query improvements, indexing strategies, resolving performance bottlenecks, and system scaling.
- Develop advanced search, filtering, and querying capabilities across large product catalog datasets.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver intuitive, reliable, and high-quality user experiences.
- Take ownership of technical challenges from discovery through implementation and continuous improvement.

- 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience building production-quality, user-facing applications.
- Strong professional experience with React, SQL, API design, and database query optimization.
- Proven ability to design and build scalable, extensible software systems.
- Experience developing configuration tools, customization experiences, or rule-based systems.
- Strong understanding of UX principles and the ability to reason through complex user workflows and constraints.
- Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, and take ownership of projects from concept to delivery.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with enthusiasm for building new products and solving challenging problems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional engineering and product teams.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with 3D platforms, CAD systems, or visual design tool ecosystems.
