Job Description

The Powerhouse Chief’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following major items. Others may be added at the discretion of the General Manager as they may be need in the operation of the housing company.

On a daily basis:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the powerhouse, supervising a staff of 15.
  • Report daily to the General Manager (and in his absence, to the Assistant General Manager for Operations) on the condition and operational status of the powerhouse.
  • Review purchase orders for submission and approval complying with Mutual’s Purchasing guidelines (copy attached); submit to accounts payable for processing.
  • Review operation of the powerhouse equipment; continually ensure that equipment is operated in the most efficient manner.
  • Maintain a leadership role; provide technical and management support for the assistant chief and all other powerhouse employees.
  • Assure a safe workplace environment for the powerhouse staff.
  • Review and assess plant and all equipment regularly to assist General Manager in budgeting and planning for replacements and upgrades, including new technology and compliance with local, state, and federal requirements for emissions and efficiency standards.
  • Attend meetings with management and contractors to review technical issues regarding active powerhouse/ pump room contracted jobs and ensure that projects related to powerhouse and associated facilities are managed and completed expeditiously.
  • Advise management of any items that need repair or replacement to maintain full operation of the powerhouse, including long term planning and budgeting.
  • Review and assess replacement of equipment with Assistant General Manager for Operations as part of the budget process.
  • Work with outside engineers on any information requests they may need to complete their analysis and/or recommendations.
  • Prepare and consult on all environmental and governmental compliance code issues, utilizing outside consultants as needed.

On a weekly basis:

  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Review open PO’s and invoices. Sign and submit to Accounts payable.
  • Review and enter weekly payroll hours.

On a Monthly basis:

  • Generate KW peak and off-peak electrical report for the Finance department.
  • Verify operation and recording of NESHAP/Rice emissions monitoring device (HAPGUARD).
  • Submit fuel inventory to Finance Manager; assist in bidding and procurement of oil and gas contracts.
  • Verify and assure any necessary operating permits for the plant and powerhouse personnel are current and up to date. Assure that personnel licenses and permits are scanned into the ADP Document Cloud system.
