How you'll contribute:
As the Appointed Actuary, you'll be responsible for assessing the asset adequacy for Brighthouse Financial's operating companies. This senior leadership role reports directly to the Chief Actuary and serves as a critical steward of the organization's financial strength, providing independent actuarial opinions, leading regulatory engagement, and shaping strategic risk management across complex products and investment portfolios. The role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the company's long-term financial stability, influencing enterprise-wide decisions, and maintaining the confidence of regulators, rating agencies, and key stakeholders.
In this role, you'll get to:
- Serve as the Appointed Actuary for Brighthouse Life Insurance Company, Brighthouse Life Insurance Company of NY, New England Life Insurance Company, and Brighthouse Reinsurance Company of Delaware; attesting to the statutory reserves and asset adequacy of each company
- Collaborate with the Cash Flow Testing team to ensure asset adequacy analysis is consistently performed in a timely, well-governed process
- Work closely with Valuation and Experience Studies teams to establish appropriate best estimate assumptions and provisions for adverse deviation
- Prepare and present actuarial materials to senior management and the Board of Directors, translating technical analysis into clear business insights
- Build strong, credible, trusted relationships with regulators and auditors, serving as the key point of contact on actuarial matters
- Lead the engagement with industry groups, such as ACLI, LICONY, and the SOA on emerging actuarial issues
- Develop and communicate company strategy on relevant emerging actuarial issues
- Provide guidance and thought leadership to internal working groups, including GA ALM, Hedging, Reinsurance, and Experience Studies
We're looking for people who have:
- FSA and MAAA with 10+ years of industry experience
- At least 3 years of experience serving as an appointed actuary
- Experience in valuation and/or ALM roles
- Deep expertise in asset adequacy testing, VM-30, statutory valuation, and cash flow modeling
- Strong understanding of life insurance and annuity products
- Proven experience interacting with senior management, regulators, auditors, rating agencies, and Boards
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to build strong partnerships and influence stakeholders
- Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Confidence in making decisions, utilizing all available information and considering downstream impacts

- Compensation – Total compensation ranging from $400,000 - $600,000 inclusive of base salary and competitive performance-based incentives determined by company and individual results.
