About This Position
Incumbents provide and coordinate instruction-related support to students in assigned learning areas such as reading, sciences, writing, mathematics, or social science.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support reading and writing development across a variety of academic disciplines.
- Maintain current knowledge on trends and professional development in academic writing.
- Screen, interview, and recruit new tutors and supplemental instructors; and ensures adequate staffing levels to facilitate center operations
- Coordinate tutor work schedules and operations of an assigned center, greets people, provides information, maintain the inventory to ensure that resources and other materials are available, and ensure that the center is clean
- Provide training, information, and guidance to tutors, and monitors tutors’ work to ensure that tutors are competent, and able to meet student goals and objectives
- Monitor student progress; tutor and provide workshops and presentations to students, instructors, and other groups using established guidelines in the assigned area of operation; provide guidance to students in a one-on-one or group setting; assist students with creating academic improvement plans, using learning technology, and with enrollment and other processes; and provide financial and other information as needed
- Review and maintain learning materials, including textbooks and worksheets; prepare supplemental learning materials; prepare and maintain records; work may involve utilizing systems and databases to record information, and reviewing information to improve current operations
- Communicate with faculty, staff, counselors, and/or other relevant personnel/departments to improve learning support services, determine student progress, resolve issues, and provide assistance; ensure that all operations performed are in accordance with applicable guidelines and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree*
- One (1) year teaching, learning or training related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in English or a social science discipline with a strong emphasis on academic writing.
- Previous experience working in a tutoring center, writing center, or other academic support environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of learning center operations, and computer operations
- Knowledge of instructional support in assigned area of operations
- Knowledge of customer service principles
- Knowledge of basic library practices and procedures
- Knowledge of recordkeeping principles
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures
- Knowledge of basic mathematical principles
- Skilled in providing customer service
- Skilled in using computers and related software applications
- Skilled in handling cash
- Skilled in assessing student needs
- Skilled in preparing and maintaining schedules
- Skilled in operating modern office equipment
- Skilled in monitoring and maintaining inventory and supply levels
- Skilled in keyboarding
- Skilled in performing mathematical calculations
- Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.EEO Statement:
