About This Position
Help New Mexico (HELPNM) was created in 1965 by the interdenominational New Mexico Council of Churches to support education in their community. Today, their legacy and impact carry on through HELPNM’s work as a fully-owned subsidiary of CPLC. The Office of Learning and Academic Opportunity (OLAO) provides services to children and families from birth to eight years of age. Our priority is to provide general services related to families in the areas of education, health and social/behavioral development. OLAO also provides an intentional, coordinated approach to strengthening the family unit and combines programming for children and adults in order to build strong and stable families.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?
- You will lead the classroom in the absence of the teacher and be responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment of children from birth to 5-years of age.
- You are a strong presence in the classroom and able to supervise and monitor the safety of children at all times.
- You will interact positively with children and encourage appropriate behaviors through positive guidance and problem solving.

You are a creative individual who can plan and interact with children in activities to promote motor, language, social, cognitive perceptual and emotional growth.
You are an effective communicator and can maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child and family.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- High School diploma or GED and willing to work towards obtaining a HELPNM Substitute Certificate or attending the ECECD 45-hour early childhood course or registering for the Child Development Associate (CDA) program. Some experience working with young children is preferred.
- First Aid/CPR Certified and Food Hander’s Certification or willing to obtain within the first 6-months of employment is required.
- Health Determination/TB Skin Test and Fingerprint Background Check prior to employment
- Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) is preferred.
Driver’s License/Proof of Insurance (Preferred): Maintain a current New Mexico driver’s license, an insurable driving record, and provide proof of current liability insurance meeting or exceeding State-required minimum coverages is preferred for this position.
