About This Position

The Hyattsville Police Department (HPD) is seeking a Mental Health Professional to be a Co-Responding Mental Health Professional (MHP) to support the implementation of the new HPD Co-Responding Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). The program will provide HPD officers with a deployable mental health professional for emergent and non-emergent calls for service that have a component of behavioral health, social services, and/or substance abuse. The CIT licensed MHP will provide expertise as a licensed MHP and serve as an integral member of the implementation of this new team.

The duties include considerable public contact and are intended to bridge the gap between law enforcement, emergency medical response, and/or the social service needs of people within this population. The MHPs will have responsibilities that include applying knowledge of behavioral health to crisis situations where support services and referrals to social services are appropriate. Co-response involves crisis triage and de-escalation, and at times referrals for substance use. As this is a new CIT program and is in partnership with the City of Mount Rainier (MRPD) and the Town of Brentwood (BPD), the MHP will work closely with the HPD Support Services Division Commander to facilitate the implementation of the CIT Program across all three municipalities.

The person selected for this position will work in multiple environments, to include office and on scene response locations, determined by the daily needs of the CIT. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position from 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. with flexible hours, as approved.
