ABOUT NEW FUTURES:

New Futures is a dynamic local nonprofit with a unique approach to fighting inequity: We

believe fiercely that shorter-term credentials – associate degrees or professional certifications

– are an effective launch point toward rewarding, fulfilling careers. New Futures invests in our

scholars with a deliberate combination of scholarships, academic and career advising, access

to transformative professional networks, and a lot of heart as they jumpstart careers they love

in high-growth fields that will lead to financial security and more equitable futures for all.

Since our founding in 1999, we have worked with over 860 Scholars and awarded over $7.8

million in post-secondary scholarships. Our impact is clear: 86% of Scholars persist or

complete their programs and 54% graduate with no educational debt. Scholars primarily

pursue careers in Information Technology, Health Sciences, Business, Education, Public

Service, Construction & Trades, and Hospitality & Culinary Arts. As we look to the future, we are

scaling our efforts to strengthen our Scholar community, deepen alumni engagement, and

enhance partnerships that drive systemic change.

THE POSITION:

The TMA AmeriCorps VISTA Member will serve on Pathways to Possibility: Expanding Career

Pathways and Economic Mobility, a three-year TMA VISTA project hosted by New Futures and

sponsored by Transform Mid-Atlantic. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships &

Community Relations, the member builds the partnership, alumni engagement, and

outcome-tracking systems that connect Scholars and alumni to career-connected learning in

healthcare, technology, business, construction, skilled trades, and hospitality.

This is a capacity-building role, not direct service. The TMA VISTA member will assess what

exists today, design the tools and processes New Futures needs, and document them so they last well beyond the service term. The role is ideal for an organized, curious, mission-driven

person who enjoys building systems and relationships.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

PARTNERSHIP INFRASTRUCTURE & CAREER-CONNECTED LEARNING: 35%

  • Assess New Futures' current career pathway and partnership efforts and identify gaps.
  • Build a partnership landscape map and tracking system for employer, industry, education, training, and community partners.
  • Inventory existing career-connected learning opportunities across high-demand regional industries.
  • Create outreach tools, engagement calendars, and coordination processes for job shadowing, mentorship, networking, career exploration, and workforce exposure.

ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT: 25%

  • Complete an alumni engagement assessment of current outreach, participation, and communication.
  • Develop alumni outreach tools and systems for identifying alumni interests and career needs.
  • Design processes for alumni to serve as mentors, speakers, volunteers, and connectors for current Scholars.

OUTCOME TRACKING & DATA SYSTEMS: 25%

  • Recommend outcome indicators for credential completion, employment, career progression, and economic mobility.
  • Help design systems to collect, organize, and use long-term Scholar and alumni outcome data, using unique IDs to avoid duplicate records.
  • Support data quality and continuous improvement practices across the project.

DOCUMENTATION, REPORTING & SUSTAINABILITY: 10%

  • Write clear procedures, templates, and guides so staff can maintain each system after the service term.
  • Complete all required TMA VISTA reporting on time and participate in TMA VISTA trainings and member activities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 5%

  • Support Scholar and donor-facing events that create opportunities for partner cultivation and alumni engagement.
Requirements:
  • At least 18 years old; a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident; able to serve full-time for one year; and able to pass required national service criminal history checks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional outreach to employers, colleges, and community partners.
  • Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area at the time of hire and maintain residency throughout tenure.
  • Comfort with spreadsheets, databases, or CRMs such as Google Workspace, Microsoft
  • Office, Salesforce, or Monday.com, and an interest in data quality.
  • Desire to lead with empathy and advocate for the needs of all Scholars.
  • Experience with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse Scholar and alumni community.
  • Ability to develop meaningful relationships with our Scholar and alumni community, especially in a virtual and/or hybrid environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet due dates, and utilize organizational tools (e.g., calendars, work plans) to successfully execute goals.
  • Project management skills: stays on top of multiple projects, plans backward, anticipates obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders appropriately, uses resources wisely.
  • Eagerness to learn and improve, as well as enthusiasm for spearheading new projects.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for team collaboration, including a willingness to pitch in as needed, while maintaining the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, including a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving and change.
  • Ability to lead or attend occasional evening and weekend meetings/events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A postsecondary credential or relevant experience in nonprofits, college access, career services, or workforce development.
  • Experience with partnership development, alumni or volunteer engagement, or data tracking.

a particular effort to recruit candidates who identify as Black, Latinx, Indigenous, people of

Have a passion for our mission but don't check all the boxes? We still want to hear from

you! Too often, excellent candidates elect not to apply for roles if they don't meet all the

requirements listed in a job description—this is especially true for women and candidates of

color. We encourage you to apply even if your experience is not a 100% match with the

position! New Futures believes in helping its staff grow; in return, you help us grow into a

stronger, more inclusive organization.

To apply: Submit an application through the New Futures career page for this TMA VISTA

position. We encourage you to apply by October 26, 2026 for first-round review.
