The Associate Chief Financial Officer (ACFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in overseeing all financial operations of the organization. This role is focused on ensuring financial sustainability, compliance, and operational efficiency across multiple medical and ambulatory clinic locations. The ACFO will lead financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and revenue cycle management while working closely with clinical and administrative leadership to support strategic growth initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the development and execution of financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and operational goals.
- Oversee financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and revenue cycle management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including healthcare-specific regulatory requirements such as Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer policies.
- Collaborate with clinic leadership to improve financial performance, enhance revenue streams, and optimize reimbursement strategies.
- Assist in managing payer contracting, financial negotiations, and value-based reimbursement models.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics to assess financial health and drive data-informed decision-making.
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure alignment of compensation structures with financial sustainability and organizational goals.
- Support financial audits, internal controls, and risk management initiatives.
- Lead financial training and education initiatives for clinic leadership to enhance financial literacy across the organization.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the CFO and provide leadership in financial planning for expansion, mergers, or acquisitions.
- Supervise and mentor financial department staff, fostering professional growth and efficiency.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or related field) pref.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP), or other relevant certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience in healthcare, preferably in medical group practice, ambulatory care, or multi-site healthcare settings.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare finance, revenue cycle management, and reimbursement methodologies.
- Experience in financial modeling, budgeting, and strategic planning.
- Familiarity with financial regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, Stark Law, and Anti-Kickback Statute.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in financial management software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a commitment to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to clinic locations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Extended periods of sitting and use of a computer.
