What You’ll Do

As a Surgical Technologist/Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN), you will report to the Practice Manager. You will perform an initial consultation with patients, take a patient's vital signs, and assess symptoms and health-related complaints. You will serve as a resource to staff by suggesting solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints.

Surgical Technologist/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Responsibilities:

  • Applies aseptic principles while scrubbing and assisting surgeons, maintaining sterile technique and correcting breaks in sterility.
  • Prepares and maintains the sterile field, performs skin preps, and ensures all instruments, supplies, and equipment are ready according to surgical preference cards.
  • Assists during surgical procedures by anticipating the needs of the surgical team and maintaining sterility throughout the procedure.
  • Responds effectively in emergency situations by performing CPR, monitoring sterile fields, calling for assistance, and following direction from the surgical team.
  • Prepares operating rooms for procedures, checks case carts and equipment, and assists with room turnover and cleanup.
  • Assists with patient positioning while maintaining patient safety, privacy, dignity, and comfort.
  • Maintains knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and instrumentation through continuing education, meetings, and collaboration with team members.
  • Serves as a resource for staff and students regarding surgical procedures, equipment, and instruments.
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures and reports issues, incomplete assignments, or faulty equipment appropriately.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support department operations and maintain professional competency.

What You Bring

As a Surgical Technologist/Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN), you will demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology, sterilization procedures, and aseptic techniques. You will maintain and care for surgical supplies and equipment while applying a basic understanding of surgical procedures, including the proper use of instrumentation, materials, and supplies. You will possess the knowledge and skills to properly handle and care for specimens and adhere to safety standards, departmental and hospital policies, and emergency disaster procedures. You will prepare operating rooms, perform surgical scrubs, drape patients, and maintain aseptic conditions throughout procedures. You will exhibit strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, co-workers, visitors, physicians, and allied health staff.

Required Qualifications

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through a successful completion of an accredited school of surgical technology, training as surgical technologist in the Armed Forces, the successful completion of an LPN accredited school of nursing.
  • Must maintain subsequent certification/licensure.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification.
