About Us

A Safe Place is committed to creating a violence-free society through prevention, intervention, and survivor-centered services. Through community-based, trauma-informed programming, the organization works to support individuals and families impacted by violence and to reduce risk factors associated with firearm violence across designated communities in Illinois.

Position Summary:

The Residential Housing Case Manager supports residents—both adults and children—by delivering trauma-informed case management that promotes safety, stability, and long-term housing success. This role sits at the intersection of advocacy, coordination, and direct service, working closely with internal teams and community partners to ensure residents receive holistic support that meets their individual needs.

This is a hands-on, client-centered role that requires empathy, organization, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining the highest standard of professional care.

Essential Job Functions:

Case Management & Client Support

  • Conduct intakes, assessments (IM+CANS / IM+CAT), and eligibility screenings for residents under domestic violence and human trafficking criteria.
  • Develop individualized service plans, monitor progress, and adjust goals as needed to help families reach stability.

Advocacy & Collaboration

  • Provide direct advocacy, safety planning, and referrals.
  • Coordinate with counselors, advocates, and community providers to deliver wraparound support.
  • Facilitate group sessions on life skills, financial literacy, and parenting to strengthen resilience and independence.
  • Support family engagement by partnering with enrichment specialists to plan children’s activities and—when needed—assist with childcare so parents can participate in counseling and therapeutic services.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain timely, accurate case notes and reports in accordance with agency and grant requirements.
  • Uphold confidentiality and trauma-informed care practices in all interactions.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and outreach events to strengthen program visibility and partnership effectiveness.
  • Provide education on domestic violence laws, victim rights, and available resources to promote awareness and safety.
Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, family therapy, or a related human services field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field plus two (2) years of documented clinical experience in a mental health setting under a QMHP.
  • High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years of documented clinical experience in mental health or human services
  • Completion of the 40-hour Domestic Violence Training (required; may be obtained upon hire).

Experience & Requirements:

This role requires you to be at the center of both direct client advocacy and coordinated program delivery. To succeed in this role, you should leverage the following:

  • Strong understanding of domestic violence, trauma-informed care, and case management best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and cultural competence
  • Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish), with the ability to serve monolingual Spanish-speaking clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple cases with empathy and precision.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Emotional resilience, professionalism, and grace under pressure.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday. Typical work hours include 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., based on operational needs.

Compensation:

$20 - $25 hourly; based on grant funding, skills, experience, and expertise. Wages are paid bi-weekly (26 pay periods annually).

Travel & Mileage

Local travel may be required for meetings, training sessions, or community collaborations.

Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with organizational policy and calculated from the employee’s primary work assignment location.

Benefits

Eligible employees may receive a comprehensive benefits package, which may include health, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plans; paid time off; holidays; and employee assistance programs, in accordance with agency policy.

Probationary Period

All employees are subject to a ninety (90)-day introductory period beginning on the first day of employment.
