Job Overview
The Welder is responsible for welding trucks and trailer bodies using primarily aluminum, along with steel and other metals. This position requires proficiency in multiple welding processes and the ability to read blueprints and work independently to meet quality and production standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What you’ll do:
- Perform MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and other welding processes on aluminum, steel, and other metal components with flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Fit, tack, and weld components as needed for the manufacturing of truck and trailer bodies.
- Ensure welds meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently.
- Inspect completed welds and assemblies for accuracy, defects, and compliance; make repairs as necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and report equipment issues.
- Meet production schedules while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
What we’re looking for:
- Technical school or welding certification preferred but not required.
- Minimum 2–3 years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience welding aluminum required
- Experience in truck body, trailer, or heavy equipment manufacturing strongly preferred
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for welding and inspection.
- Understanding of welding symbols and fabrication tolerances
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, grinders, and measuring devices
- Ability to troubleshoot welding defects and equipment issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Good time management and ability to meet production deadlines
- Ability to read and interpret data and blueprints
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations manual, blueprints, and written directions (Work Orders)
- Must be able to read a tape measure
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to work in various welding positions for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for welding and inspection.
- Must be able to communicate clearly
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, crawl, and kneel
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
