Wisconsin Center District Job Description – Network Administrator
Position Overview: The Network Administrator reports to the Vice President of Information Technology and is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of the organization’s campus-wide LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, and related copper and fiber cable plants. This position supports both internal staff as well as event clients and exhibitor services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices
- Administer end-user equipment (desktops, laptops, printers, etc.)
- Provides technical support for a variety of complex applications and systems
- Ensures network connectivity throughout LAN, WAN, and wireless networks
- Monitor system performance and implement performance turning
- Works with internal and external entities on data, phone, and video transmission systems
- Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations of hardware and software configurations in support of both internal and event systems
- Ensures proper access controls are in place for the protection of organization data
- Actively participates and assists in development, monitoring, and testing of organization’s disaster recovery plan
- Assists with event day setup of network hardlines
- Configure event day wireless networks
- Maintain and support a large enterprise wireless network with potentially 10,000+ simultaneously connected clients
- Utilize wireless design tools to determine AP placement and deploy APs, and perform post-deployment surveys in order to optimate wireless performance
- Maintains working relationships with key personnel from in-house tenants to ensure the success of their operational needs
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by management, to ensure the effective utilization of the organization’s resources and to ensure customer satisfaction

- Technical expertise to include, but not limited to:
- Networking devices (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless APs, etc.)
- Internet and fiber connections
- IP protocol, VLANs, DHCP, and DNS
- Knowledge of 802.11a/g/n/ac/ax, CAPWAP, and LWAPP
- Knowledge of L2/L3 and wireless security features including access lists, VACLS, firewalls, WPA, TKIP, CCKM, LEAP, etc.
- VoIP (Voice over IP) phone systems
- Two-way radio systems
- Knowledge of data center operations to include, but not limited to:
- General design and layout to include racks, cabinets, and wire management
- Structured network cabling standards
- Network hardware
- NAS and SAN appliances
- Virtual server technology
- Redundant power (UPS systems)
- Environmental systems and monitoring
- Data backup and archiving best practices, including disaster recovery planning

Education and Experience:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology or related field, or 10+ years of experience
- Three (3) to five (5) years of hands-on IT network administration experience
- Experience designing and implementing wireless network solutions
- Experience utilizing industry standard tools for network design and troubleshooting (Fluke, Ekahau, etc.)
- Preferred:
- Industry wireless certifications (CWTS, CWNA, CWDP, CWAP, Ekahau, etc.)
- Structured network cabling certifications
- Experience supporting Ticketmaster and/or AXS systems
- VoIP phone system experience
- Previous experience with a hotel, sports team, theater, and/or convention center
