About This Position
This position reports to the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Accountant assists the Chief Financial Officer with various accounting functions relating to the bank’s records, which include but are not limited to performing recurring monthly adjustments to the general ledger, reconciling selected statements to the general ledger, updating various accounting/support software to generate monthly entries. The Accountant is responsible for daily cash management due from bank accounts. The incumbent is responsible for preparing or providing assistance in the preparation of various regulatory reports and internally utilized reports related to the financial reporting area. This position also assists with various research projects related to financial reporting, asset liability management and other areas as required. This position will comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the USA PATRIOT ACT (CIP), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), including reporting suspicious activities to the BSA Department as well as other banking and company regulations and rules.
Responsibilities, Duties & Accountabilities - The core, critical and essential work duties, functions and responsibilities of the position are as follows:
• Reconciles and prepares monthly entries for a variety of accounts including the depreciation schedule and prepaid accounts.
• Balances loan and deposit subsidiary accounts to the general ledger daily, resolves the out of balance conditions and handles all of the monthly adjustments for all recurring entries.
• Processes daily FMS unpostable items.
• Responsible for daily funds management including maintaining cash, fed funds and borrowings.
• Assist with quarterly shareholder distributions and shareholder stock changes as needed.
• Responsible for completing various reports for internal and external use. This includes the Call Report and various internal reports, such as various management reports and the Board of Director's reports, as well as the monthly tax reports.
• Assists with and supports the CFO with Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLB) and Federal Reserve borrowings, investments, and preparation of the quarterly Qualifying Collateral Report (QCR) report for FHLB.
• Responsible for the Federal Discount Window Borrower in Custody (BIC) reports on a monthly basis.
• Assists with and supports the CFO with finance and planning functions of the bank. This includes the annual budget and quarterly ALCO report preparation Prepares monthly branch analysis and bankcard analysis.
• Reconciles in-house and correspondent bank statements monthly, Banker’s Bank correspondent account on a daily basis, and control accounts daily Processes and maintains property tax data, as well as other tax obligations as assigned.
• Maintains data and reporting for Overnight Repo Agreements (ORA);
• Serves as a back-up to the Finance Clerk with payroll processes, GL entries, accounts payable and purchasing of forms and supplies.
• Ensures compliance in all aspects of responsibility.
•As part of the overall team of bank employees, this position may be requested to assist in the support of other bank activities.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or other relative field of study.
• Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of current experience working in finance or accounting in a bank or accounting firm.
• Demonstrated attention to detail; ability to research and detect errors, and make necessary adjustments.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in working with private, sensitive and other highly confidential information.
• Demonstrated ability to adjust quickly to different work situations and remain composed under pressure and in stressful situations.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain professional working relationships with staff members, peers, leadership, customers and the general public
• Ability to maintain regular and routine attendance and punctuality
• The position requires the following competencies:
o Comprehend aspects of finance and accounting as used in a community bank. This includes understanding reconcilement, general ledger, budgeting and pricing.
o Demonstrated ability to set goals for one's self and to be a self-starter. Displays the ability to meet and set work flow deadlines.
o Demonstrated skills working with various accounting software, Microsoft products, etc
