About This Position
Description:
At Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida, our Surgery Schedulers and Procedure Coordinators are responsible for coordinating care for outpatient surgeries, inpatient surgeries, and in office procedures, along with being a liaison for patients for surgical preoperative requirements, coordination of pre operative and post operative care, and patient education.
This position is also responsible for coordinating and scheduling appointments for surgeries and procedures within the clinic, ambulatory surgery center, or hospital setting.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and schedule surgeries and procedures along with pre procedure and post procedure follow-up appointments as designated by the physicians according to established policies and procedures
- Interact with patients, physicians, and other internal staff within the clinic as well as at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information
- Coordinate pre procedure and pre surgical clearances
- Coordinate timing as required to meet physician and facility requirements
- Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment, and surgical materials
- Provide patient with pre procedure information sheets and advise patients of preoperative surgical requirements such as preoperative testing, clearances, and post surgical therapy as well as home care when applicable
- Collaborate with the internal billing and authorizations departments
- Answer and screen telephone calls in a courteous manner, and record messages for physician and other clinical staff
- Maintain patient records in a confidential manner
- Perform other related duties as directed or assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
- Strong understanding of medical terminology
- Intermediate understanding of medical insurance and billing
- Ability to work independently, attention to detail, and able to multitask efficiently
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude
- Ability to remain focused and organized in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current Medical Assistant Certification is strongly preferred
- 1-2 years of previous surgery scheduling experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Requires long periods of seated work, including computer work
- Requires repetitive bending, standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, pushing, squatting
- May occasionally require lifting up to 15 pounds without assistance
