Job Description
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Clinical Nurse Educator has a solid knowledge base of nursing theory and practice as well as advanced clinical and communication skills. The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for facilitating clinical excellence and staff development through training programs and remediation for clinical nursing staff members. The Clinical Nurse Educator participates in the development and revision of educational courses and in-services and acts as a resource person and mentor for registered nurses. The Educator participates in the development of the education plans, shares clinical knowledge with and provides support for the clinical managers/directors. The Educator is an integral role within a team that is dedicated to providing the support the clinical and leadership staff need to deliver the highest quality of care and reduce avoidable hospital readmissions. Utilizes effective communications, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills as needed. Functions within the philosophy, objectives, and standards of nursing practice and policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing. The Clinical Nurse Educator also assists in the formal and informal education of critical care/med-surgical associates as needed; assists managers with ongoing case review, quality measures, and performance improvement activities. S/he promotes development of new technologies and policies in nursing based on current research and best practice standards and represents nursing on appropriate hospital and Schools of Nursing committees as assigned.
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with BSN required.
Licensure/Certification: Valid unrestricted license with the Ohio Board of Nursing. BLS required. ACLS instructor required or obtain within six (6) months of hire. TNCC, PALS certifications preferred.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ recent staff development and/or critical care and/or med/surg experience required, critical care experience preferred. Experience with educational preparations and presentations required. Clinical Instructor experience preferred. Management experience is preferred.
Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to make sound judgments based upon advanced scientific knowledge, critical thinking and advanced clinical skills. Must have positive communication and leadership skills, be motivated and self-directed, and have the ability to integrate numerous job responsibilities. Must also demonstrate the ability to teach, mentor and instruct those receiving education and clinical experiences.
