Orion180 is seeking a Director of Delivery Governance to build and lead the governance function that ensures delivery quality, vendor accountability, and process standards across the Innovation and Technology organization.
This role owns SDLC standards, vendor performance management, ITGC controls, documentation strategy, and capability development. The Director manages both onshore governance staff and dedicated governance resources, and is accountable for ensuring both strategic delivery partners meet contractual SLAs and quality expectations. This position reports directly to the VP of Innovation & Technology. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-moving environment. We value leaders who lead from the front - setting direction while staying close to the details. You’ll build frameworks, coach teams, and contribute directly alongside the people you lead.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Vendor Governance: Establish and manage the vendor governance framework for both strategic delivery partners. Define SLAs, publish scorecards, conduct monthly operational reviews, and manage escalations. Ensure contractual obligations are met.
- SDLC Standards: Define and maintain the software development lifecycle standards, including the 9-stage project delivery flow, Definition of Ready, Definition of Done, and release readiness criteria. Make sure all streams and vendors follow the same process.
- ITGC Controls: Own the IT General Controls framework. Ensure SOC 2 evidence collection is operational, access management policies are enforced, and change management controls are documented and auditable.
- Documentation Strategy: Lead the documentation sprint to capture the institutional knowledge documentation and transfer programs. Manage the Technical Writer and vendor documentation resources. Establish the knowledge capture gate for employee exits.
- Delivery Metrics: Build delivery performance dashboards with governance team members. Track sprint velocity, deployment success rates, defect escape rates, and vendor performance metrics.
- Capability Development: Oversee onboarding programs, communities of practice, and capability development for both internal and partner resources through the vendor Training & Onboarding Lead.
- Planview/ADO Governance: Define the integration governance rules between Planview and Azure DevOps. Ensure work item traceability, status mapping, and reporting integrity across both systems.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve delivery processes based on retrospective findings, metrics trends, and industry best practices.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 7+ years in delivery management, governance, or PMO leadership roles within technology organizations.
- 5+ years managing vendor relationships in outsourced or strategic partnership models, including SLA definition and scorecard management.
- Strong experience with SDLC governance, ITGC controls, and SOC 2 compliance requirements.
- Experience building delivery metrics programs and performance dashboards.
- Proven ability to establish process standards and drive adoption across multiple teams and vendors.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban) and project management methodologies.
- Experience with Planview, Azure DevOps, or similar portfolio and project management tools.
- Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at all organizational levels.
- PMP, SAFe, or ITIL certifications preferred.
- Demonstrated player/coach leadership style - you set the strategy AND roll up your sleeves to execute. You’re comfortable building the first version of a process, template, or deliverable yourself rather than waiting for your team to be in place.
