About This Position
JOB SUMMARY:
Guards residents, employees, and property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Uphold the law and respect the constitutional rights of all people.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned.)
§ Periodically patrols buildings and grounds of facility. Complete two mandatory patrols per shift.
§ Examines doors to determine that they are secure.
§ Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
§ Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked. Report all safety violations.
§ Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons. Permits authorized persons to enter building.
§ Provide escorts for residents, employees and requesting guests. Completes daily security logs, security round logs, write work orders, write security incident reports, and safety check logs.
§ Takes necessary actions to maintain the safe and smooth operation of the facility.
§ Assists at the Front Desk. Including all duties at that post.
§ Assists with Fire Drills.
§ Assists with 911 calls.
§ Assists nursing with residents that fall. Include but not limited to; assist in lifting the resident up, assisting with memory care residents, applying first aid / CPR, etc.
§ Responds to maintenance requests after regular hours. This includes, but not limited to; unclogging toilets, shut off water valve for water leaks, troubleshoot TV issues, clean-up water leaks, etc.
§ Inspect fire extinguishers monthly and fill out proper paperwork.
§ Be familiar with the locations of the fire alarm panels and the process of resetting them, when necessary.
§ Inspect exit lights and general lighting. Issue applicable work orders for issues to be corrected.
§ Assist residents and staff who may lock themselves out of their apartment or office.
§ Install key blocks on resident apartments if they go out of town or in the hospital
§ Lock down the elevator for move-ins.
§ Assist visitors with parking and/or locate the resident they are visiting.
§ Provide marketing tours on weekends, holidays, and/or after hours. Provide marketing information for a tour or contact the marketing representative to schedule an appointment during normal business hours.
§ May be assigned to special duties during their shift; parking garage duty, work at the desk area in the absence of receptionist.
§ Be familiar with resetting wander guard alarms, pull cords, and emergency pendants.
§ Assist in testing the emergency systems.
§ Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:§ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
§ Must possess a valid Florida Class “D” license or obtain one within the 90-day probationary period.
§ Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
§ Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.
§ Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently throughout the workday.
§ Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
§ Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
§ Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people.
§ Willing to work beyond the normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
§ Ability to handle department equipment according to standard procedures.
§ Must possess sight and hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
§ Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, tact, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and visitors.
§ Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor no matter how minor they may be.
§ Attends and participates in inservice classes, on-the-job programs, etc. as scheduled and directed.
§ Honor the Residents’ Rights polices at all times.
§ Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
§ Be expected (and required) to perform any task in a safe, sanitary and efficient manner in accordance with established procedures.
§ Follow facility safety program.
§ Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook.
§ Any exposure to blood or body fluids that contain visible blood must be reported to supervisor on the shift in which the incident occurs.
§ Be familiar with universal precautions (i.e. frequent hand washing, using gloves, etc.).
§ Ability to understand and use universal precautions and appropriate protective measures, which are readily available to every employee, engaged in Category I tasks.
§ Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
