Job Description

The Plant Manager is responsible for driving productivity through efficiency and optimization of all processes. This position executes best practices in a cost-effective manner with minimal disruption to production. The Plant Manager manages multiple functional areas including production, maintenance, warehouse, and quality. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)


Essential Position Functions:

  • Identify and coordinate improvements in the operations area necessary to meet the commitments for the plant and cost objectives.
  • Drive production goals and develop organizational structures to support customer on-time delivery requirements and production demand.
  • Control labor, material, and supply utilization. Evaluate performance against the established standard; take necessary corrective action to meet or exceed standard.
  • Work with sales and scheduling teams to develop and revise production schedules and priorities because of customer requirements, equipment failure, or operating problems.
  • Own the Safety Culture of the site and work collaboratively with Managers, Supervisors, and supporting departments including HR and EHS.
  • Develop, lead, coach, and mentor Production Managers and Supervisors to achieve goals, solve problems and provide a safe work environment.
  • Ensure that cost gaps are identified, action plans developed, and adequate resources allocated to meet all financial objectives.
  • Set and achieve all productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety & motivation Key Performance Indicator objectives.
  • Provide a work environment that adheres to all compliance and regulatory guidelines.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement that meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Troubleshoot processes and/or procedures to find the root cause of an issue and find a resolution.
  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally to assist the team to solve operational issues.
  • Lead the identification and elimination of losses resulting in improvements in costs, inventory, time, and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with HR to ensure proper staffing levels, work schedules, and work centers, based on production needs and capacity.
  • Ensure corrective action process is followed, problems are addressed in a timely manner and are effective in solving the issue.
  • Develop and report on performance and efficiency metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Provide active and positive leadership in the effort to drive the culture across the facility.
  • Embody the Company Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably Engineering or Technology oriented) or equivalent work experience required.
  • 8+ years of manufacturing leadership experience in all operational functions of manufacturing.
  • Proven leadership ability in the areas of mentoring, organizational development, management, and relationship-building.
  • An authentic role model who models personal and organizational values with consistent integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate the operations team to consistently perform consistently with a “Continuous Improvement” mindset.
  • Proven leadership ability in the areas of mentoring, organizational development, management, and relationship-building.
  • Demonstrate strong financial acumen.
  • Strong data analytics skills and ability to translate information into action.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence key internal and external stakeholders and to interface effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Results-driven, high energy, persistent, and characterized by a strong sense of urgency.
  • Analytical decision-maker with demonstrated ability to synthesize data quickly and accurately and implement data-driven decisions in a timely manner.
  • Must have intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in English, for safe and effective performance of the job and business operations.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk and stand continuously for long periods of time.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull/leverage up to 75 lbs.

Mental Demands

  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills.
  • Will interact regularly with managers and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Work Environment

  • Employee works primarily in a manufacturing warehouse environment.
  • Excessive noise. Hearing protection is provided and required.
