Manager, Patient Safety Attendants
Position Summary
Provides guidance, support and staff development for the patient safety attendants. Responsible for identifying program and training needs and works to ensure practice standards and regulatory requirements are implemented and maintained.
Supervises and facilitates hiring, orientation, scheduling, and ongoing leadership of patient safety attendants responsible for constant observation of designated behavioral health and medical patients.
Responsibilities
- Supervises practice and supports the teams with oversight on interventions, advocacy and documentation
- Facilitates processes that connect the care and programming for the patient safety attendants across all KH care areas
- Supervises and works collaboratively with all programs and areas of patient care to address barriers and needs for care management
- Monitors, assists and enhances the work of the team while promoting the skills necessary for the staff development
- Facilitates meetings and care coordination, collaborating across the organization and with internal stakeholders
- Trains, coaches and develop staff to perform standardized duties/care for patients
- Familiar with regulatory requirements, standards, policies and practices and procedures within KH that impact the role and function of the team
- Utilizes knowledge of culture, age and developmental states to build upon and provide standards for best practice
- Ensures quality, safety and compassion are modeled in all interactions with staff and patients
- Reviews and conduct evaluations of the work performance of team members
- Coordinates staff schedules, adjusting assignments as needed and ensures accuracy of all Kronos entries
- Maintains regular communication with Hospital Supervisor, Centralized Staffing and Nursing Operations Manager to ensure that personnel concerns are addressed in a timely manner and collaborative interdepartmental relationships are maintained
- Ensures competencies, regulations and standards are met in accordance with policy and best practice
- Effectively communicates with patients, visitors, team members, physicians, and other hospital personnel to ensure patient safety and needs are met
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in social work or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ leadership experience required
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in the field required
- Previous hospital-based experience preferred
- Experience and demonstrated competence in program development and experience training staff
- BLS required
- MOAB Certification during General Orientation
- Safe patient handling to include ambulation and positioning of patients during General Orientation
- Situational awareness and de-escalation course provided by Kootenai Health
- Leadership courses provided by Kootenai Health upon first year of
Working Conditions

- Must be able to maintain a standing position
- Must be able to maintain a sitting position
- Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc
