Shipping Supervisor

Salary
$28.85 – $42.30 per hour (DOE) / $60,000 – $88,000 annually
Role Objective
We are seeking a hands-on Shipping Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of our Shipping & Receiving department. This role ensures on-time, accurate, and compliant outbound shipments of precision-machined parts to aerospace, medical, and industrial customers, and supervises a small team of shipping and receiving associates.
Key Responsibilities
· Supervise shipping and receiving team members including daily direction, training, and performance feedback.
· Plan, prioritize, and execute daily outbound shipments to meet customer on-time delivery commitments.
· Prepare and verify shipping documentation including packing slips, bills of lading, commercial invoices, and certifications.
· Ensure compliance with customer shipping requirements, ITAR/EAR regulations, and DOT/IATA hazmat rules where applicable.
· Coordinate with freight carriers (UPS, FedEx, LTL, and specialty aerospace carriers) to secure competitive rates and meet delivery windows.
· Manage packaging design and execution to protect precision parts during transit.
· Support receiving operations including inspection handoff, material put-away, and ERP receipt posting.
· Partner with Sales, Customer Service, and Production to communicate delivery schedules and resolve shipping issues.
· Own shipping KPIs including on-time shipment %, damage rate, and freight cost per shipment.
· Maintain cleanliness, organization, and 5S standards in shipping, receiving, and staging areas.
· Ensure full compliance with AS9100 requirements for material handling, identification, and traceability.
· Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time and freight spend.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED; associate degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred.
· 5+ years of shipping, receiving, or logistics experience in a manufacturing environment, including 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role.
· Working knowledge of domestic and international shipping including LTL, parcel, and freight forwarding.
· Experience with carrier shipping software (UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, or similar).
· Proficient with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, NetSuite, or similar).
· Strong attention to detail, accuracy with documentation, and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
· Ability to lead, coach, and hold a team accountable for daily execution.
· Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Additional Information
Preferred Skills
· Prior experience in AS9100-certified aerospace manufacturing.
· Working knowledge of ITAR/EAR export regulations.
· DOT/IATA hazmat certification.
· Forklift certification.
· Familiarity with Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement tools.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand for long periods and move between different workstations.
· Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
· Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, and other manufacturing conditions.
