Uniform Construction Code Building Inspector (part-time) in MONTCLAIR, New Jersey at TOWNSHIP OF MONTCLAIR

Description: The UCC Building Inspector inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code and enforces same to ensure public safety, health and welfare; performs related work as required. Work is performed under general direction from the Uniform Construction Official, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures. Candidates must possess a valid New Jersey's Driver's and valid RCS License, HHS preferred, issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills as well as knowledge of structural design and analysis techniques necessary to check compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code, particularly with regard to wood framing, light steel, and wall bearing systems which include foundations, wall, floor, and roof framing systems. Duties: Inspects buildings in the process of construction, alteration, repair and removal for conformance to the Uniform Construction Code and local ordinances. Inspects and checks building plans for structural safety and design, and conformity with requirements of laws, codes and ordinances. Receives written and oral requests for Building Code information and answers inquiries. Receives, inspects and processes complaints of building code violations. Prepares reports, establishes and maintains records and files.Requirements: Valid New Jersey Driver's License and minimum two (2) years of relevant experience. Possession of a current and valid Building Inspector's License of the appropriate class issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Computer literacy, with experience using Spatial Data Logic programing preferred. May require off hours availability as situations warrant.Wage Range: $36.41 - $57.17 per hour.
