Description:

Position Overview

The Shipper is responsible for the shipping of products using LTL carriers and contracted carriers and maintaining appropriate inventory levels. This position is required to coordinate with sales, purchasing and manufacturing to ensure the timely shipping of goods. He/she may be required to assist other employees as a helper on key work or machines as required by the work schedule.

Essential Job Functions

  • Move freight, stock or other materials to and from production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, by hand or using a fork lift, hand truck or pallet jack.
  • Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
  • Assemble product containers, crates, skids, pallets and boxes using hand tools and precut lumber.
  • Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers.
  • Create, process, review and follow-up all PO’s by confirming data within 48 hours of issue and update pricing, delivery dates and any other variances with respective warehouse.
  • Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices or orders to verify accuracy.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages or discrepancies for reporting, accounting or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Correspond with representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages and other shipping errors.
  • Communicate with suppliers weekly to build relationships.
  • Pack, seal, label or affix shipping labels (i.e. UPS, FEDEX, DHL) to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools or computer software.
  • Identify inventory shorts and stock positions to help achieve/maintain 95% fill rates.
  • Completion of other tasks as assigned by the manager
Requirements:

Competencies

  • Ability to read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material/equipment needs; quality control; and safety.
  • Effective verbal, written, and mathematical skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Must have strong general mechanical skills.
  • Must be familiar and comfortable with various hand tools and machinery.

Work Environment

  • Office 0% Production/Warehouse floor 100%

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, pull or push up to 50 lbs.; anything over 50 lbs. is to be assisted.
  • Be on your feet 8-10 hours per day.
  • Must demonstrate good hand/eye coordination; Must demonstrate good manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to repetitively use arms, hands, and fingers in the manipulation of parts.
  • Must wear required PPE as directed.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Full Time.
  • Monday-Thursday, 6am-3:30pm, Friday 6am-10am

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High school graduate/GED required
  • At least 1 year experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment
  • Previous purchasing experience
  • Prior certification or completed skill training on Forklift
