Position Summary

The Director of Golf at Shanty Creek Resort is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for leading the guest-facing golf experience across our five world-class courses. This role blends operational leadership, brand building, and guest experience excellence to position Shanty Creek as a premier golf destination in the Midwest.

Reporting directly to the COO, the Director of Golf oversees all golf operations including tournaments, group outings, special events, and pro shop performance. This leader is also the face of Shanty Creek Golf—representing the resort at major golf shows, building strategic relationships, and driving awareness and demand for our golf offerings year-round.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Operations

  • Lead all guest-facing golf operations across five courses, ensuring a consistent, high-quality experience.
  • Oversee Pro Shop operations and lead the Pro Shop Manager team.
  • Ensure exceptional service delivery across tee times, check-in, pace of play, and on-course experience.
  • Partner with Grounds and Facilities teams to align course conditions with guest expectations.

Events, Tournaments & Group Business

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for major golf events, including tournaments, outings, and marquee events such as the Michigan Open.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Events teams to drive group bookings and deliver seamless event execution.
  • Develop innovative programming to attract and retain group and leisure golf business.

Brand Development & Market Presence

  • Represent Shanty Creek Resort at regional and national golf shows and industry events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with golf associations, partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with Marketing to position Shanty Creek as a top-tier golf destination.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of golf professionals and managers.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, hospitality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure alignment with resort-wide service standards and operational goals.

Strategic & Financial Leadership

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to grow golf revenue and guest engagement.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance of golf operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, increase revenue, and enhance the guest experience.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, Sports Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in golf operations or resort hospitality
  • Strong operational, financial, and team leadership experience

Preferred:

  • PGA Membership or certification
  • Experience managing multi-course or destination golf operations
  • Proven success in tournament management, group sales, and event execution
