About This Position

Ophthalmic Technician: This 1.0 FTE/Full-Time position is scheduled to work 8-HR day shifts.

Compensation: Non-exempt, $28.91/HR-$41.30/HR

Job Summary
  • The Ophthalmic Tech is responsible for assisting the physician or other provider with all back office duties to include patient histories, exam room prep, examinations and procedures, and performing all applicable necessary tests on specified equipment.
Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Takes initial patient history, noting past and present medications, and complaints in the patient’s medical record.
  • Prepares the patient and room for examination or procedure by the physician and assists with the examination.
  • Monitors the flow of patients to maximize physician’s time and reduce delays
  • Performs and assists with special testing.
  • Takes photos, IVFA, A-scans
  • Schedules at the hospital various eye surgeries for the physician
  • Handles physician’s call back on patient test results as directed
  • Monitors and maintains equipment in good working order
  • Maintains medical stock, to include obtaining purchase order numbers; and maintains drug and medical supply inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned..
Required Education and Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
  1. Medical Assistant-Registered Certification from the State of Washington within 120 days of hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Working knowledge of ophthalmic assistant functions, clinical standards, and clinic practices and procedures.
  2. Ability to distinguish emergency patient situations.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of age related care as needed for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with the ability to provide patient care that is appropriate to the age and development status of the patient.
  4. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical ethics
  5. Strong communication skills; ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences. Ability to listen actively and respond to patients and coworkers in a timely, appropriate manner both verbally and non-verbally.
  6. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with physicians, coworkers, patients, and families. Ability to present a professional, caring image and demeanor to patients and families.
  7. Ability to exercise good judgment, use discretion and maintain confidentiality of privileged information and records.
  8. Ability to accept responsibility, work independently, prioritize and manage time and tasks effectively. Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
  9. Adaptability; ability to learn, understand, and navigate work processes, terminology, and computer software systems.
  10. Ability to read, understand and interpret information from a variety of sources and to understand and follow moderately complex instructions.
  11. Ability to perform basic math functions.
