JOB TITLE: Radiation Oncology Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
The Radiation Oncology Manager provides operational and administrative leadership for Radiation Oncology services, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. This position is intended for a clinically trained Radiation Oncology professional—such as a Radiation Therapist, Certified Medical Dosimetrist, or Medical Physicist—who can bring both technical expertise and leadership to the department.

This role oversees daily operations, staff performance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team aligned with clinic goals and values.

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Staff Management
• Provides direct leadership and supervision to Dosimetrists, Radiation Therapists, and Radiation Oncology support staff.
• Conducts annual performance evaluations, ongoing development & coaching, and corrective action in accordance with HR policies.
• Maintains effective communication, fosters collaboration, and promotes team engagement.
• Builds strong working relationships within the department and across the organization.
• Assesses staff competencies and coordinates cross-training to support coverage and specialized services.
• Approves time-off requests and ensures accurate completion of timecards and payroll documentation.
• Leads department meetings and assigns responsibilities as needed.

Operations & Workflow
• Coordinates daily staffing assignments and schedules to ensure appropriate clinical and operational coverage.
• Monitors workload distribution and resource utilization to optimize efficiency.
• Oversees department workflows, including patient coordination and front-office support functions.

Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Ensures departmental operations comply with clinic policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversees quality assurance activities and participates in performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintains and updates departmental policies and procedures.

Patient Experience
• Ensures staff are equipped to support patients with ambulatory or special needs.
• Promotes a patient-centered environment that prioritizes safety, dignity, and satisfaction.
• Serves as an escalation point for patient care or operational concerns.

Requirements:

PERFORMANCE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

• Current certification or licensure as a Radiation Therapist (RTT), Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD), or Medical Physicist is strongly preferred and considered a primary qualification for this role.

• Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific, healthcare, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in Radiation Oncology or a closely related clinical setting.

• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience (formal or informal).

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in Radiation Oncology leadership or departmental oversight.

• Strong knowledge of radiation safety, treatment planning, and oncology workflows.

• Experience managing or mentoring clinical teams.

CERTIFICATION / LICENSE:

• Required: Current professional certification/licensure in Radiation Oncology (RTT, CMD, or Medical Physicist).

• Additional clinical licensure (e.g., RN or LPN) may be considered but is not the primary focus for this role.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Work is performed in both administrative and clinical environments, including potential presence in radiation treatment areas. Frequent interaction with patients and staff is expected. The role requires attention to detail, multitasking, and adaptability. Physical requirements include prolonged sitting or standing, occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), and sufficient manual dexterity for computer use. Adherence to radiation safety protocols is required.
