About This Position

Position Description:

The Senior Project Engineer will help drive project operations, ensuring efficiency, precision, and successful execution across all phases. This role is pivotal in overseeing project workloads, assisting with the bidding processes and subcontracting, managing RFIs, submittals, and on-site construction documentation. Additionally, the Senior Project Engineer will play a key role in mentoring and developing our team of Project Engineers/Project Coordinators. Must have a deep understanding of company processes, industry best practices, and a proactive, hands-on approach to leadership, training, and team development. This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to the Director of Construction.

Essential Job Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Project Oversight & Execution

Lead and manage all aspects of construction project activities from preconstruction to closeout.
Conduct thorough reviews of construction documents to identify and resolve constructability issues.
Ensure bid documents are properly prepared and distributed on schedule.
Oversee cost solicitation efforts, ensuring comprehensive trade coverage before bid submission.
Develop detailed scopes of work, lead bid distribution, and assist in bid openings and tabulations.
Manage pre-bid meetings, site visits, and RFIs to facilitate a smooth bidding process.
Ability to perform and record take-offs.
Assist with preparing and submitting responses to RFPs and preparation of presentations for new projects.
Reviewing and processing submittals, shop drawings, etc.
Effective time management and ability to identify and complete duties thoroughly.
Ensure that material and equipment deliveries are consistent with construction deadlines.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Managements.

Subcontracting & Procurement
Conduct post-bid interviews and negotiate subcontractor agreements.
Draft subcontracts and purchase orders with minimal oversight.
Ensure timely execution of all preconstruction field activities, including securing permits, job signage, and safety compliance, etc.

Scheduling & Coordination
Develop and maintain project schedules, collaborating with Project Superintendents for regular updates.
Oversee the RFI and submittal process, ensuring timely resolution of critical and technical issues.
Coordinate material and equipment deliveries to align with project timelines.
Manage upstream and downstream change orders, negotiating cost changes and processing approvals.

Financial & Budget Management
Assist in managing project budgets, tracking expenditures, and providing financial updates.
Assist in processing monthly invoices and billings, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
Maintain clear communication between the field and office teams to facilitate smooth project execution.

Leadership & Team Development
Act as the primary liaison between management, field teams, and project stakeholders.
Mentor and train Project Engineers and Project Coordinators, fostering professional growth.
Represent the engineering team in internal management meetings, advocating process improvements.
Ensure adherence to company policies, safety protocols, and quality standards.

Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with subcontractors, engineers, architects, and project partners to ensure alignment on project objectives.
Attend and facilitate project meetings, prepare agendas and review meeting minutes before distribution.
Step in for Project Managers as needed for site visits, meetings, and project walkthroughs.
Engage in phone conversations without hesitation to promptly address matters.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications/Experience/Education:
10+ years of experience in construction management, with at least 1-2 years of leadership experience.
Strong understanding of project administration, with the ability to work independently and proactively with minimal oversight.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes, contracts, budgets, and scheduling.
Proficiency in construction software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Project, Teams, OneNote, Autodesk Cloud (or similar), Building Connected (or similar), Bluebeam, DocuSign, Sage 300, and TimberScan.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and adapt to changing project needs.
Professional demeanor and ability to maintain strong client relationships.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and 7-year background check.
Bachelors degree in construction management or engineering preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
Must pass a 7-year pre-employment criminal background check
