About This Position

Reporting to the Hospital President, serving as a member of the hospital's senior leadership team. This position requires a leader with a strategic mindset and ability to identify, develop, and execute on strategies and tactics that drive our growth with a strong bias for action. The ability to model inclusive behaviors, collaborate with others internal and external to the organization, build effective teams, and develop talent at a leadership level are critical for success in this position.

Working through subordinate managerial personnel is responsible for the administrative oversight and direction of professional and support services departments including Rehabilitation Services, Memorial Regional Cancer Center, Pharmacy Services, Radiology, Laboratory, Communication Services, Cardiovascular Services, Volunteer Services, Plant Engineering, Security, Environmental Services and other departments as assigned. Administrates the managerial function of setting objectives, planning, staffing, and overseeing the activities of assigned departments/areas of responsibility.

Administrates the managerial functions of setting objectives, planning, staffing, and overseeing activities of assigned departments/areas of responsibility by:

  • Consulting with and advising President of problems related to the operation of assigned hospital/departments, recommending changes in administrative policies to carry out objectives of the hospital more effectively.
  • Assisting President by participating in the hospital's short and long-range planning function.
  • Assisting in the preparation of hospital/departmental budgets and allocation of funds based upon reviews of department estimates/recommendations, familiarity with operating procedures and cost/revenue projections and reviewing all department requests for capital expense items and submitting same, with recommendations, to the President.
  • Ensuring the efficient, economic, and quality performance of assigned departments of responsibility to support or provide quality health care services.
  • Leading department heads in the development of operating plans and policies which support Beacon Health System and Memorial Hospital goals, improve quality and reduce the cost of health care for our patients.
  • Evaluating the performance of subordinates to provide for professional development and to maximize contributions towards established goals.
  • Providing for effective problem resolution within established guidelines.
  • Ensuring that departments comply with federal and state laws and regulations, and the standards of the Joint Commission as well as other accrediting or certifying organizations.
  • Participating in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as required.
  • Providing and maintaining effective communications with medical staff, the community and all levels of management and staff.

Represents Hospital in the community by:

  • Meeting with members of the community; promoting good hospital public relations and attending meetings of professional, civic and service organizations as a hospital representative.

Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through successful completion of a bachelor's degree in business, health care or related field, and a Master's in hospital administration, business administration, science or specialty field within areas of responsibility. Minimum of five to seven years of experience in hospital administration or management of specialty field.
