Position Summary:
The Department of Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Special Education (ELCSE) of the College of Education and Behavioral Science is seeking applicants for a 9-month, non-tenure track Temporary Instructor of Special Education position. Candidates will teach in an online Special Education Program, which may include initial and advanced programs in special education K-12. The successful candidate will be a strong collaborator and have a desire to connect with colleagues and build relationships to ensure a strong program. The successful candidate will have experience in developing and teaching special education and curriculum courses, mentoring students, and being involved in appropriate activities for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the program. Candidates are expected to be well-versed in behavior management, characteristics of exceptional learners, special education law and ethics, educational assessment, the Science of Reading, and experience in supervising field activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Candidates will preferably demonstrate successful teaching experience at the master's and specialist levels; have experience with online teaching, Canvas LMS, and be proficient in utilizing and incorporating technology into instruction and research efforts.
• Knowledge/experience regarding literacy and assessment (specifically Science of Reading, and the use of High-Quality Instructional Materials).
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
Other:
Minimum Qualifications:
• An earned Doctorate Degree in special education or in a related field of education
• Classroom teaching experience (a minimum of three years) in P-12 public schools in special education
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Teaching experience in online teaching
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in online course development
• Proficient in utilizing and incorporating technology into instruction
• Documented specialization in reading or Autism or moderate/profound

- Instruction and course development in special education.
- Teach 15 hours in special education, and/or a variety of areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Develop and modify courses as needed
- Work with a team of academic assistants to support the courses the candidate designs
- Work collaboratively with faculty in the special education program and other department programs
- Provide supervision for field experiences
- Serve on program, department, and university committees
- Participate in program, department, college, and university-level meetings
- Carry out other functions as may be appropriate to the position
