This is a remote consulting opportunity for an experienced healthcare revenue cycle professional with deep expertise in denials management and project delivery. You will assess complex denial processes, identify root causes, and develop strategies that improve financial performance and prevent avoidable revenue loss. The role combines hands-on revenue cycle expertise with project management, stakeholder coordination, and data-driven problem solving. You will lead initiatives from planning through implementation while keeping timelines, deliverables, risks, and outcomes on track. Working with operational and executive stakeholders, you will translate complex findings into practical recommendations and measurable improvements. This six-month engagement is well suited to a seasoned consultant who can turn analysis into action and drive meaningful revenue cycle transformation.

Accountabilities:
  • Assess existing denials processes, workflows, performance, and operational practices to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze denial trends, perform root-cause analysis, and identify financial risks and preventable revenue leakage.
  • Develop and implement strategies designed to reduce denials and improve overall revenue cycle performance.
  • Lead denials-related projects and improvement initiatives from planning through implementation and completion.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, deliverables, status reports, and other project management documentation.
  • Coordinate activities across revenue cycle teams, operational leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project meetings and communicate progress, risks, issues, dependencies, and opportunities.
  • Monitor deliverables and ensure initiatives remain aligned with timelines and project objectives.
  • Evaluate revenue cycle and denial data to develop actionable recommendations and measure improvement outcomes.
  • Partner with operational stakeholders to implement workflow and process improvements.
  • Identify upstream factors contributing to denials, including payer processes, authorizations, coding, billing, and related workflows.
  • Support the development and implementation of denial prevention strategies, standard operating procedures, workflows, and process documentation.
  • Track key performance indicators and evaluate the impact of improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on revenue cycle denials, best practices, and performance improvement.
  • Present findings and recommendations clearly to both operational teams and executive-level stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of healthcare revenue cycle experience, including significant hands-on experience in denials management.
  • Strong understanding of the complete revenue cycle and end-to-end denials management lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying denial trends, conducting root-cause analysis, and developing denial reduction strategies.
  • Proven project management experience with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills, with experience working with revenue cycle reporting and performance metrics.
  • Thorough understanding of payer requirements and denial and appeal processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex revenue cycle issues into clear recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently in a consulting environment while building effective relationships with client teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience leading revenue cycle transformation or optimization initiatives is preferred.
  • Experience supporting large health systems or complex healthcare organizations is a plus.
  • Experience with Epic or other major EHR or practice management systems is advantageous.
  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, or a related field is preferred.

Benefits:

  • $80.00 per hour.
  • Six-month contract engagement.
  • Fully remote position.
  • Opportunity to apply specialized revenue cycle and denials expertise to a meaningful healthcare consulting engagement.
  • Opportunity to lead projects focused on revenue cycle optimization, denial prevention, and financial performance improvement.
  • Exposure to complex healthcare organizations and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Opportunity to contribute strategic recommendations while maintaining hands-on involvement in project execution.
