Position Summary

The Housekeeping Manager serves as a key member of the Rooms Department leadership team, supporting the Director of Housekeeping in the overall management of housekeeping operations. This role ensures guest rooms and public areas consistently meet brand standards while managing departmental budgets, staffing, inventory, training, and employee performance. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with hotel housekeeping management experience, excellent organizational skills, and experience working in a union environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Lead daily operations of the housekeeping departments
  • Ensure guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas consistently meet cleanliness and quality standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain housekeeping and procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, storage spaces, and employee work areas.
  • Coordinate room availability with the Front Office team and maintenance needs with the Engineering Department.
  • Monitor department performance and implement operational improvements as needed.

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Order and maintain adequate inventory of linens, cleaning supplies, guest room amenities, laundry products, and housekeeping equipment.
  • Establish and maintain proper inventory par levels to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Conduct routine inventory audits and monitor supply usage to control costs and minimize waste.
  • Monitor departmental expenses and ensure adherence to budget objectives.

Leadership & Employee Development

  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train housekeeping team members.
  • Develop staff schedules based on occupancy forecasts and business demands.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, tardiness, call-offs, coaching sessions and disciplinary actions.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and engaging work environment focused on teamwork and accountability.

Union Relations

  • Work effectively within a Union Local 1 environment.
  • Ensure compliance with labor agreements and company policies.

Guest Satisfaction

  • Champion a culture of exceptional guest service.
  • Respond to guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Partner with hotel leadership to identify opportunities for service improvement.
  • Analyze guest feedback and implement action plans to enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Ensure the department consistently supports the hotel's guest satisfaction goals.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety standards, and hotel policies.
  • Conduct ongoing safety training and promote a safe working environment.
  • Monitor proper use and storage of chemicals, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintain compliance with health, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of housekeeping supervisory or management experience in a hotel environment.
  • Must have the flexibility to work varying shifts based on hotel occupancy and operational needs, including weekends and holidays.
  • Previous leadership experience managing teams in a fast-paced hospitality setting.
  • Experience with inventory management, purchasing, and maintaining inventory par levels.
  • Experience documenting employee attendance, performance, coaching, and corrective actions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a Union Local 1 environment.
  • Experience with Marriott hotel property management and housekeeping operating systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the hotel for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate computers, mobile devices, telephones, and other office equipment.

In accordance with Illinois law, the anticipated pay range for this position is:

$63,000– $70,000 per year

The final offer will be based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, internal equity, and market conditions.

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed work day, to include Holidays, or time of work if business or task assignments demand. In addition, it should be understood that business needs determine the amount of hours that you work.
