Deli Buyer & Receiver – Full Time

Good Foods Co-op is a community-owned natural foods grocery dedicated to building a more equitable and sustainable food system. We support local farmers and producers while creating a welcoming, inclusive shopping experience for everyone in our community.

We’re looking for a Prepared Foods Buyer & Receiver who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about natural foods. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys purchasing, inventory management, vendor relationships, and maintaining efficient operations across multiple food production departments. You'll play a key role in ensuring our Kitchen, Bakery, and Café teams have the products and ingredients they need to succeed.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll support purchasing, receiving, and inventory operations across the Prepared Foods Department by:

  • Sourcing and purchasing products for the Kitchen, Bakery, and Café departments
  • Monitoring inventory levels and ensuring timely replenishment of ingredients and supplies
  • Receiving deliveries and verifying product quality, accuracy, and condition
  • Processing invoices, coding purchases, and maintaining accurate pricing and cost information
  • Managing vendor relationships and communicating regarding credits, shortages, and quality concerns
  • Negotiating pricing and terms with suppliers when appropriate
  • Organizing warehouse, cooler, freezer, and dry storage areas for efficiency and food safety
  • Maintaining inventory accuracy and supporting regular inventory counts
  • Monitoring margins, purchasing budgets, and product costs to support department profitability
  • Tracking deliveries and maintaining receiving documentation
  • Ensuring all purchased products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting food safety, sanitation, and operational standards throughout receiving and storage areas
  • Collaborating with department managers and shift leads to ensure products are available when needed

Physical & Work Environment

  • Fast-paced retail, warehouse, kitchen, and backroom environment
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, and movement throughout the day

  • Use of pallet jacks, carts, ladders, and receiving equipment
  • Exposure to moderate to loud noise and shared workspaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and team lift over 100 lbs as needed
  • Ability to work safely around equipment and moving deliveries

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Availability – Must be available to work as scheduled typically scheduled Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm

Education and/or Experience

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. 3 years previous retail, grocery or receiving experience required.
  3. Experience with inventory management, pricing and margin preferred
  4. Basic proficiency with computer applications and programs including email, Catapult, and operations related applications
  5. High level of interest in natural and organic foods. High level of interest in the cooperative business structure and in the long-term sustainability of locally-owned, independent businesses preferred.
  6. Very strong work ethic and demonstrable attention to detail. Must be a fast, focused, and hardworking person.
  7. Experience working with the public. Experience with diverse cultures and backgrounds preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Fast paced work environment
  • Business office with moderate to loud environment including but not limited to: Computers, printers, paging, telephones, human voices, equipment, and machinery
  • Work near moving mechanical parts (i.e. store equipment, tools, etc.)
  • Work in cold/hot climate areas (i.e. outdoors, walk in cooler, freezer)
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate to loud noises (i.e. equipment and machinery)
  • Crowded work spaces. Equipment sharing required
  • Work in high precarious places (i.e. ladders, ladder work)

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Walking, bending, sitting, reaching for long periods of time
  • Using hands or fingers to handle or feel
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to team lift up to and over 100 lbs.
  • Ability to climb up and down step stools, ladders
  • Ability to use feet and hands to operate machinery and equipment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and wet climates
  • High level of maneuverability
  • Ability to communicate by talking and hearing
