Learning Specialist - Mental Health Interventionist (Early Childhood)
ABOUT THE ROLE
ECE Subhub is hiring a Mental Health Interventionist to provide Student Support Services across Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) classrooms in Oakland County. In this role, you'll partner with preschool teachers and families to support children - particularly those with behavioral, developmental, or social-emotional challenges - through coaching, behavior planning, and connection to community resources.
This is a relationship-based, trauma-informed position for someone who's comfortable working directly in classrooms, guiding teaching teams, and having candid, supportive conversations with families and staff.
POSITION DETAILS
- Location: Oakland County, MI - travel throughout the county required
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week (8 hours/day), mid-August through end of June
- Compensation: $65,000
- Program Year: 2026–2027
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Coach and model effective, developmentally appropriate behavior-management techniques for teachers and families.
- Provide in-classroom consultation around challenging behaviors, including:
- Direct coaching of intervention techniques with children in the classroom.
- Help designing behavior plans and behavior-tracking systems.
- Support for teaching-team meetings focused on specific children and challenges.
- Make referrals to appropriate behavioral health and family-support services.
- Participate in program behavior-team meetings—and where one doesn't yet exist, help the program build one and identify a staff lead to sustain it.
- Meet with families or staff during early-morning or evening hours as needed.
- Travel throughout Oakland County to assigned sites.
- Take on other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in education, early childhood, special education, social work, or a related field.
- Experience working with young children, including children with disabilities, and with their families.
- Comfort having difficult conversations with family members, educators, and administrators.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Scheduling flexibility for occasional early-morning or evening meetings.
- Computer proficiency, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, and PowerPoint.
- Reliable transportation for county-wide travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree from an accredited program in education, social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
- Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health (MI-AIMH) Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Based Practice.
- Working knowledge of IDEA regulations and inclusive teaching practices.
- Knowledge of early childhood development, birth through age 6.
- Experience in trauma, toxic stress, social-emotional development, and building resilience for children, families, and professionals.
- Classroom consultation experience.
- Familiarity with the ASQ developmental screening tool, Devereux's DECA, and/or the NCPMI Pyramid Model.
