Job purpose

The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.

The Foundation is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor to work collaboratively with the Veteran Support Advocates and other program staff serving Veterans who have experienced unsheltered homelessness and who are now transitioning into permanent housing.

Candidate will be responsible for assisting the supportive staff with front and back-office activities, including the reception area, mail, large purchasing requests, and facilities. Assist with providing arrangements for office meetings and other tasks as assigned.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate staffing and coverage for all shifts.
  • Works in tandem with the Program and/or Associate Director to provide supervision to Veteran Support Advocates.
  • Manage and effectively communicate with the Program and Associate Director on shift regarding staffing needs, events that occur, etc.
  • Monitoring activities on the premises regularly, ensuring the environment is safe and secure.
  • Coordinate with security team to deter trespassers and violators.
  • Coordinate with security team to control and manage the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and vehicles according to protocols.
  • Providing detailed reports on daily activities and any incidents that may have occurred to management.
  • Using provided communication devices such as two-way radios clearly and concisely.
  • Regularly walkthrough facility “common areas” and report observations and patrols to radio dispatchers.
  • Function as covering agent at any level when not supervising.
  • Ensuring everyday business decisions align with the Foundation’s core values.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior experience in social work, psychology, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent organization and oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to service, organization values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor.
  • Prior experience managing direct reports.
  • Ability to operate with minimum supervision yet know when to seek assistance and guidance.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional, and respectful demeanor when dealing with diverse staff/residents.
  • Exceptional multi-tasker.
  • Exceptional communication skills when managing up, managing down, or communicating with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and a dedication to building and maintaining a feedback culture.
  • Experience working in a Crisis Management Model.
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including Behavioral health professionals, social workers, and community organizations.
  • Prior Peer experience and Peer education training are Preferred.
  • Candidates must complete a two week training program, which includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: Reducing Stigma, Mental Health First Aid, Smart Recovery, CPR/NARCAN Training, Assisting Individuals in Crisis, Psychological Body Armor, and Verbal De-Escalation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office/Google Suite (or equivalent).
