This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Strategic Project Lead - Legal based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to lead strategic legal AI pilots at the intersection of legal expertise, data, and advanced artificial intelligence.
You’ll take emerging legal AI use cases from initial scoping through validation and operationalization, turning concepts into scalable programs.
The position combines hands-on project leadership with sophisticated legal judgment and close collaboration with researchers, customers, and global delivery teams.
You’ll help shape how case law, contracts, statutes, regulatory filings, and legal reasoning are prepared for AI model training and evaluation.
You’ll also establish workflows, expert requirements, quality standards, and operational frameworks that enable successful pilots to scale.
The environment is fast-paced and evolving, requiring strong stakeholder management, sound judgment, and comfort working through ambiguity.

- Strategic Project Leadership: Lead legal AI pilots and research initiatives from initial scoping through validation and operationalization, ensuring programs meet defined standards for legal quality, feasibility, and cost.
- Legal AI Program Development: Translate emerging legal AI use cases into structured projects capable of supporting model training, evaluation, and future deployment.
- Legal Data Strategy: Shape how case law, contracts, statutes, regulatory filings, and legal reasoning are sourced, structured, and applied within AI training and evaluation workflows.
- Risk & Confidentiality Management: Apply appropriate legal judgment around privilege, confidentiality, jurisdictional requirements, and other considerations relevant to sensitive legal information.
- Pilot-to-Scale Execution: Develop the workflows, subject-matter expert requirements, quality standards, and operational blueprints needed to transform successful pilots into scalable programs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys, legal experts, researchers, customers, and global delivery teams to align legal requirements with technical and operational objectives.
- Quality & Feasibility: Define success criteria and quality frameworks, assess project feasibility, and ensure deliverables meet customer and program expectations.
- Operational Excellence: Coordinate complex workflows, manage priorities and dependencies, identify risks, and continuously improve delivery approaches for future legal AI programs.
- Stakeholder Management: Build trusted relationships with customers and internal partners while communicating project objectives, progress, challenges, and outcomes clearly.
- Legal Education: JD or equivalent law degree.
- Legal Experience: 2+ years of experience in private practice, in-house legal work, legal research, regulatory, compliance, or a related legal environment.
- Project Leadership: 2+ years of experience leading complex projects, operational workflows, subject-matter initiatives, or multidisciplinary programs.
- Legal Expertise: Strong understanding of legal research, contract analysis, litigation, regulatory/compliance processes, or other complex legal workflows.
- AI & Data Experience: Experience with AI/ML companies, AI research environments, or data annotation and evaluation projects is a plus.
- Technical & Data-Intensive Projects: Experience managing legal, technical, or data-intensive projects is advantageous.
- Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, subject-matter experts, researchers, customers, and delivery teams.
- Judgment & Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to interpret complex information, identify risks, evaluate requirements, and make sound decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Adaptability: Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities, technologies, and AI capabilities can evolve quickly.
- Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work across functions and geographies while maintaining clear communication, accountability, and delivery focus.
