Job Description

The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher, under the supervision of the Lead Teacher & the School Director, is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher & implementing a developmentally based, educational program for their assigned class of children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Greets each child in a warm friendly manner.

2. Reads each individual child’s files in his/her class and is knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories.

3. Interacts with the children & encourages their involvement in all activities.

4. Provides a warm, safe and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean & appealing. The environment should allow the child to grow & to explore.

5. Assists in the preparation & follow-through of daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the

curriculum.

6. Responsible for the health, welfare, and safety of the children.

7. Assists with overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time.

8. Assists in all family-style meals & snack time activities and related record-keeping (when

applicable).

9. Assists in maintaining the daily attendance records.

10. Assists in maintaining ongoing developmental records for each child.

11. Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.

12. Ensures confidentiality of privileged information.

13. Maintains adherence to all church/school policies and procedures.

14. Must work the days and hours to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, be punctual and timely

in meeting all performance requirements, including but not limited to, attendance standards and work

deadlines.

15. Performs additional program duties as assigned by the administration staff according to agency needs.

16. Shared discipline responsibilities with teacher.

17. Provides written documentation in situations where it is detrimental to a child’s physical, social or emotional development.

standard for daily living.

2. Lives a Christ centered lifestyle in attitude, speech, sexual conduct and actions towards others.

3. Actively attend a Christian church of your choice and be in good standing.

4. Posses spiritual maturity, academic ability and leadership qualities to perform job.


Periodic Duties

1. Attends all school scheduled staff meetings. (Exact meeting dates/times TBA).

2. Participates in Open House scheduled prior to the start of school.

3. Attends all needed in-service training and DCY required trainings as approved and

instructed by the Admin Team.

4. Attends family events as determined by administration team.

7. Maintains cleanliness in all work areas.


Minimum Position Requirements

1. Effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner.

2. Sensitive to individual children’s differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program

& curriculum to meet those individual needs.

3. Motivated to learn and grow in an educational environment; and be willing to continually increase

knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education.

4. Relate and speak with parents in a respectful and courteous manner.

5. Work in a team environment; be willing to share ideas & be open to other’s ideas, be flexible & willing

to compromise.

6. Must be able to observe, hear and respond to the needs of children in conflicts or emergencies.

7. Effectively communicate the English language orally and in writing.

8. Confidently and effectively care for children’s social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs.

9. Able to maintain self control in daily interactions with staff, parents and children.


Special Requirements and Physical Demands:

1. Regular to frequent requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 40lbs.), including bending,

stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking.

2. Noise level can be moderate to loud.

3. Must be able to run/sprint/move quickly in case of emergency

Relationships

Responsible for maintaining positive, courteous and professional relationships with the following:

1. Children in the Early Childhood Program.

2. Families of the children enrolled in the program

3. All Early Childhood Staff including other teachers, administrative staff, Director and church staff.

4. Professional staff from other related agencies.
