Youth Leagues & Program Referees
Position SummaryThe Youth Leagues and Programs Referee is responsible for officiating games and supporting sports programs for youth participants at Hill City Sports Center. This position ensures that games are conducted fairly, safely, and in accordance with established rules while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and a positive experience for players, coaches, and families. Referees may be assigned to various youth leagues, instructional programs, clinics, tournaments, and other recreational sports activities based on facility needs and their qualifications.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOfficiate youth league games and recreational sports programs across multiple sports, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, and other sports offered by the facility.
Enforce applicable rules and regulations consistently, fairly, and impartially.
Support youth sports programs, clinics, tournaments, and other activities as assigned.
Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and positive behavior among participants.
Maintain appropriate control of games and address rule violations or unsportsmanlike conduct professionally.
Prioritize participant safety and promptly report injuries, incidents, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
Arrive on time and prepared for assigned games and program activities.
Communicate professionally with players, coaches, parents, fellow officials, and facility staff.
Collaborate with other officials and program staff to ensure smooth game operations and a positive participant experience.
Maintain accurate game scores, records, and incident reports as required.
Follow facility policies, emergency procedures, and youth safety guidelines.
Attend required training sessions, officials' meetings, and program orientations.
Assist with game setup, equipment preparation, and other related program duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as needed to support the successful operation of youth leagues and sports programs.
Knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of one or more sports.
Previous officiating, coaching, or playing experience preferred.
Ability to make timely, fair decisions and communicate effectively.
Ability to manage disagreements and resolve conflicts calmly and professionally.
Dependable, punctual, and available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to work effectively with children, families, coaches, and coworkers.
Must meet applicable background screening and youth safety requirements.
Ability to perform the physical activities necessary to officiate assigned sports, including standing, walking, running, and moving throughout the playing area, with or without reasonable accommodation.
