JOB SUMMARY

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer with the below described skills and experience to join our team of technical professionals supporting our Department of Defense customer at Joint Base MDL. In this position, you will have a high-profile role supporting the development, qualification, production, and sustainment of unique Department of Defense systems.

The Mechanical Engineer will provide hands-on engineering support within a manufacturing and technical environment. The position is focused on technical investigation, engineering problem resolution, technical documentation, manufacturing and quality support, and cross-functional coordination.

Ideal candidates will have practical engineering experience within a manufacturing, production, sustainment, laboratory, or similar hands-on technical environment. Candidates should be comfortable working directly with hardware, technicians, manufacturing and quality personnel, and multiple engineering disciplines to solve real-world technical problems. Individuals must be able to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.

As a member of our team, you will have the professional satisfaction of playing a key role in ensuring that our Department of Defense customer's systems that directly impact our country's warfighting and peacekeeping capabilities are performing at optimal levels. This position is located at our customer site at Joint Base MDL. In this position, you will work our customer's Compressed Work Schedule, which consists of working four 9-hour days (M–Th) and an 8-hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle, followed by four 9-hour days (M–Th) and being off on the second Friday. This results in a 3-day weekend every other week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct technical and engineering investigations involving mechanical hardware, manufacturing processes, discrepancies, failures, and other engineering issues.
  • Apply creative engineering problem-solving techniques to unique or non-routine technical problems and develop practical recommendations for resolution.
  • Work directly with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, quality personnel, and other stakeholders to investigate and resolve technical issues.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, work instructions, reports, and other technical documentation to verify technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Develop and revise engineering reports, technical evaluations, procedures, investigation findings, recommendations, and other supporting technical documentation.
  • Research and evaluate technical information necessary to support engineering decisions and recommendations.
  • Coordinate the resolution of engineering issues that cross organizational and technical disciplines.
  • Track technical issues, actions, and recommendations through resolution while maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
  • Participate in technical meetings, investigations, reviews, and working groups and clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations.
  • Support the review and modification of engineering drawings when required.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A BS/BA degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Must have a Secret level or higher clearance or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must have at least 1–2 years of substantive engineering experience within a manufacturing, production, sustainment, laboratory, or similar hands-on technical environment.
  • Candidates with 2–5 or more years of directly relevant engineering experience are preferred.

Technical:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply creative problem solving to unique or non-routine engineering issues.
  • Experience conducting technical and engineering investigations involving hardware, manufacturing processes, discrepancies, failures, or related technical issues.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to clearly document engineering analyses, investigation results, findings, recommendations, procedures, and corrective actions.
  • Experience reviewing and verifying the accuracy of technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, work instructions, and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of or practical experience with quality assurance in a manufacturing environment, including inspection, nonconformance, corrective action, process compliance, or related quality activities.
  • Experience coordinating across engineering, manufacturing, quality, technical, program, vendor, and/or customer organizations to resolve cross-disciplinary engineering problems.
  • Experience working directly with hardware, manufacturing processes, technicians, and engineering personnel.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, NAVAIR, aviation, shipboard, or other defense systems is preferred.
