The new Element by Marriott Richmond Short Pump is looking for an experienced, driven, and highly engaged Assistant General Manager to join our opening leadership team and help shape the hotel from the ground up.

This is not a role for someone looking to simply maintain an existing operation.

About the Opportunity

As the Assistant General Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager and company leadership to help successfully open, stabilize, and grow a brand-new Element by Marriott hotel in the Short Pump market.

You will be involved across the entire operation, including:

  • Front Office

You will be expected to know what is happening throughout the hotel, support your department leaders, step into the operation when needed, and help ensure that our guests and associates experience hospitality at its best.

What You'll DoLead the Hotel Operation
  • Assist the General Manager with the overall daily operation and performance of the hotel

  • Help establish operational procedures, standards, and expectations during the hotel opening

  • Provide hands-on leadership across all departments

  • Serve as the senior hotel leader when the General Manager is unavailable

  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the property

  • Support departments during high-volume periods and operational challenges

  • Identify problems quickly and take ownership of solutions

  • Ensure departments work together efficiently and consistently

Build the Team & Culture

Opening a hotel means building more than an operation.

  • Help recruit, onboard, train, and develop hotel associates

Own the Guest Experience
  • Maintain a strong and visible presence with guests

  • Respond to guest concerns quickly and professionally

  • Monitor guest feedback, surveys, online reviews, and satisfaction scores

  • Identify trends and implement action plans for improvement

  • Ensure all departments consistently deliver the service standards expected by Element by Marriott

  • Create a culture where every team member understands their role in the guest experience

The Assistant General Manager will help monitor and influence:

  • Occupancy

  • RevPAR

You will work with the General Manager and department leaders to identify opportunities, control expenses, manage labor, and improve overall property performance.

Think Like an Owner

We are looking for someone who sees the entire hotel, not just one department.

You will assist with:

  • Budget management

  • Forecasting

  • Labor planning

  • Purchasing

  • Inventory

  • Financial reviews

Partner With Sales & Revenue
  • Work closely with Sales and Revenue Management to understand hotel demand

  • Review occupancy, rate strategy, group activity, and upcoming business

  • Support strategies designed to increase occupancy, ADR, and total hotel revenue

  • Help identify local business and community opportunities

  • Understand the hotel's competitive market and positioning

  • Support efforts to develop the Element Richmond Short Pump as a preferred hotel in the market

Protect the Brand
  • Ensure compliance with Marriott and Element brand standards

  • Support hotel readiness for brand evaluations and inspections

  • Maintain strong cleanliness, safety, and operational standards

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

  • Partner with Engineering to maintain the condition of the property

  • Help ensure the hotel remains inspection-ready every day

What We're Looking ForHotel Leadership Experience Is Required

This is an Assistant General Manager position in a new-build hotel, and we are looking for someone who already understands hotel operations and leadership.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Previous hotel leadership experience

  • Strong knowledge of hotel operations

  • Proven ability to lead and develop employees

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong operational judgment

  • Ability to make decisions under pressure

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous hotel leadership experience required

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience within a hotel environment preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of hotel operations

  • Experience supervising and developing employees

  • Strong guest-service and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work a flexible leadership schedule

  • Ability to work weekends and holidays based on business needs

  • Ability to serve as Manager on Duty as required

Preferred Experience
  • Previous Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager, Front Office Manager, Executive Housekeeper, or similar hotel leadership experience

  • Marriott brand experience preferred

  • New hotel opening or hotel transition experience is highly desirable

  • Experience with hotel budgeting and forecasting

  • Experience reviewing hotel P&L statements

  • Familiarity with STR performance and revenue strategy

  • Experience managing labor productivity and departmental expenses

  • Strong Front Office and Housekeeping experience

  • Food & Beverage experience is a plus
