This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced language expertise in support of mission-critical transcription and translation work in a highly structured and fast-paced environment. You will work with spoken and written Yiddish content, transforming complex communications into accurate, court-ready English transcripts used in sensitive operational contexts. The position requires strong linguistic precision, cultural understanding, and the ability to interpret colloquial, slang, and coded language. You will contribute directly to information clarity by producing high-quality written outputs that support decision-making in time-sensitive scenarios. This is a detail-oriented role ideal for linguists who thrive under pressure and value accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality. Work is remote and project-based, with varying schedules depending on operational needs.
- Listen to live and recorded Yiddish communications and produce accurate written and verbal summaries and transcriptions in English.
- Deliver court-ready transcripts of calls, chats, and other communications with high attention to grammar, formatting, and accuracy standards.
- Identify and interpret colloquialisms, slang, idiomatic expressions, and coded language within conversations.
- Support real-time monitoring efforts by relaying relevant information to designated stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Build and maintain reference materials such as slang dictionaries, terminology logs, and voice identification libraries throughout project duration.
- Operate specialized transcription and communication analysis software and tools as required.
- Maintain detailed productivity logs and ensure adherence to daily output and quality expectations.
- Apply feedback from supervisors and incorporate reference materials to ensure consistency and accuracy across all deliverables.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in languages or related fields is a plus.
- Minimum 1 year of professional translation or interpretation experience in Yiddish.
- Strong command of Yiddish, including dialects, colloquialisms, slang, and regional expressions.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills, with strong grammar, punctuation, and spelling accuracy.
- Ability to pass required language proficiency assessments in both Yiddish and English.
- Strong typing skills (minimum 45 words per minute) and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience working with transcription tools, digital audio/video files, or communication monitoring systems is an advantage.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and meet eligibility requirements for Public Trust clearance, including background and credit checks.
- Hourly rate of $35/hour with eligibility for overtime pay.
