POSITION SUMMARY

The Housekeeper/Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout Muleshoe Area Medical Center, affiliated clinics, and other assigned facilities. This position supports infection prevention initiatives, patient satisfaction goals, workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and organizational quality standards through effective cleaning, disinfection, and environmental maintenance practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.

Experience

Previous healthcare housekeeping or environmental services experience preferred but not required.

Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques.

Ability to learn healthcare infection prevention standards and procedures.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.

EQUIPMENT USED

May include but is not limited to:

Floor scrubbers

Buffers and burnishers

Vacuum cleaners

Wet/dry vacuums

Carpet extractors

Housekeeping carts

Linen carts

Mops, buckets, and hand tools

Chemical dispensing systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, push, and pull throughout the workday.

Frequently lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds.

Operate housekeeping equipment and push supply carts.

Work in areas exposed to cleaning chemicals, biological materials, and infectious agents.

Ability to perform repetitive motions and prolonged physical activity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee regularly works in patient care areas, offices, public spaces, clinics, and support departments. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, infectious materials, and other healthcare-related hazards may occur. Appropriate training and protective equipment will be provided.

Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Demonstrate flexibility to meet departmental staffing needs.

Comply with all facility policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Environmental Cleaning & Disinfection

Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, treatment areas, offices, public areas, and ancillary departments according to facility standards.

Perform daily, discharge, terminal, and isolation room cleaning procedures.

Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces using approved cleaning and disinfecting agents.

Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, polish, and sanitize assigned areas.

Clean all clinic areas, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, emergency department, and other patient care locations.

Clean glass surfaces, mirrors, windows, doors, and partitions.

Remove trash, biohazard waste, and other regulated waste according to policy.

Infection Prevention

Adhere to all infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.

Follow isolation precautions and enhanced cleaning protocols.

Report infection prevention concerns or environmental hazards to appropriate personnel.

Safety & Compliance

Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively.

Handle chemicals according to manufacturer instructions and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Maintain compliance with OSHA, CMS, CDC, CIHQ, HHSC, and facility standards.

Identify and report unsafe conditions, spills, damaged equipment, or potential hazards.

Participate in emergency preparedness and disaster response activities as assigned.

Linen and Supply Management

Receive, weigh, load, unload, store, and distribute linen supplies.

Replenish housekeeping and restroom supplies including paper products, soap, sanitizer, and related materials.

Maintain housekeeping carts and supply rooms in a clean and organized condition.

Customer Service

Interact professionally and courteously with patients, residents, visitors, physicians, vendors, and staff.

Respect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

Contribute to a positive patient and visitor experience.

Quality Improvement

Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.

Support environmental rounds, cleaning audits, and survey readiness activities.

Attend required staff meetings, in-services, and educational programs.

Other Duties

Assist with special cleaning projects, emergency cleaning situations, room setup, and facility events as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
