Job Description
Position Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations within a cosmetic production facility, including compounding, filling, packaging, and labeling. This role ensures production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP (ISO 22716) standards, 21 CFR 210 / 211 and company quality requirements.
The Production Supervisor drives schedule adherence, workforce productivity, and continuous improvement while maintaining strict control over processes and outputs.
Key Responsibilities
Production Oversight
- Supervise day-to-day production activities across batching/compounding, filling, and packaging lines
- Ensure adherence to production schedules and timely completion of work orders
- Monitor production output, downtime, and efficiency to meet operational targets
- Coordinate with Planning and Warehouse teams to ensure material availability
Team Leadership
- Supervise production line leads, and operators
- Schedule staffing levels to meet production demands
- Provide training, coaching, and performance management
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with cosmetic GMP (ISO 22716) and internal SOPs
- Review batch records for accuracy and completeness
- Partner with QA/QC to address deviations, non-conformances, and investigations
- Maintain a state of audit readiness at all times
- Compliance with 21 CFR 210 and 211 guidelines.
Process Efficiency & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase throughput and reduce waste
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to improve efficiency
- Monitor and improve key metrics such as OEE, yield, and cycle times
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
- Enforce OSHA safety standards and safe work practices
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling of raw materials and equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized production environment
Equipment & Maintenance Coordination
- Work with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure equipment uptime and reliability
- Support preventive maintenance schedules and minimize production disruptions
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate production records, logs, and reports
- Track and report KPIs such as output, downtime, scrap, and labor efficiency
- Communicate performance and issues to senior leadership
Skills and Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred
Experience
- 3 – 5+ years of manufacturing experience in cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceuticals, or related industry
- 2 – 5+ years in a supervisory or management role
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of cosmetic GMP (ISO 22716)
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines 21 CFR 210 / 211 compliance
- Experience with batching, filling, and packaging operations
- Familiarity with production planning and ERP systems
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and process improvement tools
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication and decision-making skills
Work Environment
- Manufacturing production floor with exposure to machinery, noise, and raw materials
- Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting
- Fast pace manufacturing environment.
- Use of PPE required
