Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, Inc. is seeking an experienced Site Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations of our Huntsville, Alabama facility. The Huntsville site will serve as an important U.S.-based hub supporting NASAMS training, customer support, field service activities, and broader program operations.
The Site Operations Manager will serve as the primary on-site operational leader responsible for ensuring the facility is safe, secure, well maintained, customer-ready, and capable of supporting Kongsberg employees, instructors, Field Service Engineers (FSEs), customers, and visiting program teams.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring an individual who can operate effectively across a broad range of responsibilities. The Site Operations Manager will coordinate facility maintenance and vendors, security and access requirements, training and customer activities, equipment and material movement, budgets, site services, and operational readiness.
As Kongsberg's Huntsville presence grows, this role will also help establish the processes, infrastructure, and operating model necessary to support potential future capabilities such as expanded sustainment activities, receiving inspection, equipment support, assembly, and test.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a growing environment where priorities evolve and will be expected to identify needs, solve problems, coordinate resources, and build scalable processes that support both immediate operational requirements and long-term growth.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site operational leader for Kongsberg's Huntsville facility and coordinate day-to-day site activities.
- Ensure the facility remains safe, secure, operational, well maintained, and ready to support employees, customers, training events, and visiting program teams.
- Coordinate closely with Kongsberg program leadership, training personnel, Field Service Engineers, Security, IT, HR, Finance, Procurement, Logistics, Quality, and other functional teams to support site requirements.
- Support execution of NASAMS training activities by ensuring classrooms, training spaces, equipment, technology, materials, and supporting infrastructure are available and operational.
- Coordinate facility schedules and requirements associated with training events, customer visits, demonstrations, meetings, and other program activities.
- Support instructors and Field Service Engineers with site-based operational requirements, including workspace, equipment, logistics, access, and facility support.
- Manage facility maintenance, repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, utilities, and recurring services.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for landlords, property management, maintenance providers, contractors, vendors, and other site service providers.
- Identify and resolve building, equipment, infrastructure, and operational issues and coordinate corrective action as appropriate.
- Manage and track facility-related contracts, services, expenses, budgets, purchase requirements, and vendor performance.
- Coordinate site access, physical security, visitor requirements, and other facility security activities in partnership with Kongsberg Security.
- Support implementation and maintenance of applicable environmental, health, safety, security, and facility compliance requirements.
- Coordinate receiving, storage, movement, accountability, and staging of training equipment, materials, supplies, and other site assets in partnership with Logistics, Property, and program personnel.
- Support facility and equipment readiness assessments and maintain awareness of issues that could impact scheduled training or customer activities.
- Establish processes for work requests, preventive maintenance, facility inspections, vendor management, asset tracking, emergency response, and other recurring site operations.
- Develop and maintain site operating procedures, facility documentation, emergency plans, vendor information, maintenance schedules, and other required records.
- Identify operational, safety, security, schedule, staffing, infrastructure, and resource risks and coordinate appropriate mitigation and corrective actions.
- Support business development, program, and customer activities occurring at the Huntsville facility, including site visits, presentations, demonstrations, and special events.
- Coordinate facility requirements associated with new employees, visiting Kongsberg personnel, customers, contractors, and international colleagues.
- Support planning for facility expansion, modification, equipment installation, and evolving program requirements.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate site utilization, infrastructure needs, equipment requirements, and future staffing or support needs.
- Help develop scalable processes and infrastructure capable of supporting future Huntsville activities that may include expanded sustainment, receiving inspection, equipment and material support, assembly, test, and other program requirements.
- Perform other site operations and mission-support responsibilities as required to ensure successful execution of Kongsberg activities in Huntsville.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in facility operations, site management, operations management, military installation support, training-site operations, logistics, infrastructure management, manufacturing operations, or a related environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated leadership or management experience coordinating personnel, contractors, vendors, service providers, or cross-functional operational activities.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage day-to-day operations of a facility or operational site.
- Experience coordinating facility maintenance, vendors, contractors, utilities, inspections, work orders, or other facility services.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing requirements, solve operational problems, coordinate resources, and maintain accountability for execution.
- Experience supporting customer-facing operations, training activities, technical operations, military programs, manufacturing, sustainment, or other complex operational environments.
- Experience managing budgets, purchase requirements, vendor relationships, service contracts, or facility-related expenses.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a growing and evolving environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees, leadership, customers, vendors, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively across geographically dispersed teams and functional organizations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any security clearance and facility access requirements necessary for assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to travel periodically based on business and program requirements.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, Logistics, or a related field; equivalent military, technical, or relevant professional experience may be considered.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense, U.S. Government, defense industry, aerospace, military training, or other highly regulated operations.
- Experience supporting military training facilities, technical training programs, field service organizations, sustainment operations, or customer demonstration facilities.
- Experience establishing or scaling operations at a new facility or growing business location.
- Experience coordinating physical security, facility access, controlled areas, or operations involving sensitive or controlled equipment.
- Experience with equipment receiving, inventory, property accountability, warehousing, logistics, or material movement.
- Exposure to manufacturing, assembly, test, maintenance, repair, or technical sustainment operations.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power BI, or other facility management and reporting tools.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements, emergency preparedness, environmental health and safety practices, and facility compliance requirements.
- Professional certification such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent is preferred.
PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
- Ability to safely move throughout office, training, warehouse, equipment staging, and operational areas and support occasional material and equipment handling activities as required.
- Ability to perform work in a variety of facility and operational environments, which may require periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, or accessing equipment and infrastructure.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
OTHER POSITION CONSIDERATIONS:
- Job Type: Full Time, Exempt
- Location: This position operates onsite at our Huntsville, AL facility. The ability to reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work is required.
- A hybrid schedule may be discussed with the manager and will vary based on the needs of the customer or program.
- Travel: Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Travel may be up to 10% to include CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- U.S. Passport is required.
