The Social Media Marketing Intern will learn from and support the Manager of Digital Communications in creating compelling social media content in support of Vivo Performing Arts’ marketing department goals.
This internship offers hands-on experience in digital storytelling, campaign strategy, and audience engagement within a fast-paced nonprofit arts environment. The intern will contribute to real-time marketing campaigns for performances, community events, and institutional initiatives while gaining insight into how social media supports ticket sales, brand visibility, and community connection.
The ideal candidate is passionate about the performing arts and interested in learning about arts management while growing their design, marketing, content creation, and social media skills. They are creative, collaborative, curious about internet culture and emerging trends, and excited to help connect audiences with live performance experiences across Greater Boston.
This role is well-suited for someone interested in arts marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, content creation, or creative strategy who wants to build a professional portfolio of meaningful, public-facing work.

Responsibilities:
- Drafts and schedules social media content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, and TikTok
- Contributes ideas to the social media content calendar and brainstorms content opportunities to grow and amplify the Vivo Performing Arts brand
- Promotes ticket sales and free event sign-ups by creating engaging content for social media campaigns
- Tracks social media performance through weekly analytics reports and social listening logs
- Researches artists, performances, and cultural trends to identify timely and audience-centered content opportunities using existing and new and content
- Captures real-time photo and video footage at Vivo Performing Arts events and performances for promotional use on stories and in upcoming social campaigns
- On-the-ground social media coverage for Public Performance Project: Let’s Dance Boston taking place September 23-27, 2026 at the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston
- Develops and executes social media post concepts, from identifying the audience and message to producing and scheduling content across relevant platforms
- Designs graphics and edits short-form video content using Canva, Capcut, and other creative tools, optimizing content for different social platform placements
- Creates and maintains Facebook event pages and assists with platform updates as needed
- Influencer research and outreach
Desired qualifications:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate, recent graduate (2026), graduate student, or diploma program student
- Field of study is flexible: arts, humanities, communications/journalism, design, marketing, arts administration, or an adjacent field
- Students from any department with relevant experience and interest are welcome to apply
- General knowledge of and passion for the performing arts industry and a desire to connect people through the arts
- Must have excellent writing and communication skills and experience proofreading and editing their work
- Must be attentive to detail, have the ability to meet deadlines, and be a self-starter
- Excited about trends and technologies and ready to dive into new social media platforms and trends
- Previous social media, design, or videography experience is preferred but not required
Compensation and Time Requirements:
- $15 per hour up to 10 hours per week, over the course of 2-3 days per week during business hours, with some evening and weekend work during the performance season
- 14-week Internship will run approximately from September 14 through December, with flexible start and end dates based on academic schedule
- This internship is hybrid. The Vivo Performing Arts office is located in Back Bay. The Marketing team meets weekly Mondays at 11:00am (virtual) and Wednesdays at 11:00am (alternating remote & in person). We’d love if you could join us for one of those meetings. Remote and in person work depends on event schedule, duties of the week, and candidate’s overall interest in the in-office experience.
