Job Description
If numbers is your jam, a well-formatted and organized Excel sheet makes you smile, and working at a fast-paced law firm is your dream, then read on because you might be able to make your dream a reality at David Fogel P.C.
The Role:
As our Accounting/Billing Specialist, you'll be essential to our business and financial operations, ensuring accuracy in accounts payable and receivable. You will need to be really good with numbers and understand our contingency fee billing model inside-out and be proficient in Microsoft Excel. You'll need to get to know who our vendors are and learn when to question an invoice. Oh yeah, before I forget, our "busy season" happens during the first week of each month so you'd hafta be willing to be in the office (i.e. not take vacation) during that time.
The Responsibilities:
The candidate will be required to work independently on daily accounting (operating and trust), bookkeeping and billing functions, which include:
- recording and reconciling a high volume of transactions on a daily basis
- monitoring financial account activity
- issuing payments by check and wire
- working alongside with other billing specialists and other staff within the firm
- ensuring accuracy and being accountable
- reporting directly to the firm's managing attorney on a regular basis
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone like YOU!.... well... assuming you can check off each of the following boxes:
- Bachelor's degree - preferably in Accounting or Business Administration
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an accounting/billing role within a law firm (trust us, you'll need it).
- Solid understanding of trust accounting (IOLTA) principles; the difference between legal fees and expenses; and what contingency fee billing entails.
- A genuine desire to work in an accounting/billing role (in a law firm).
- Know how to write a check.
- Know how to endorse a check, complete a deposit slip and bring it to the bank.
- Working knowledge of basic legal and litigation terms.
- A ninja-like attention to detail - seriously, we once lost a staple and it threw off our entire filing system for a day.
- Excellent communication skills (because following up with clients for payment needs to be done just right).
- Proficiency in Excel formulas (show us your favorite one in your application).
- Ability to multi-task and stay organized (you gotta keep up with our fast pace).
- Very comfortable with a PC (Macs are cool but you gotta know the difference between left click and right click).
- Easy to work and get along with (I know, it sounds silly doesn't it).
If you carefully read all this and genuinely think that this could be good fit for you and that you'd be a good fit for us, then click Apply Now and tell us why. Wouldn't it be cool if you got a job that you could brag about to your friends?
