Job Description
The Staff Accountant supports STM’s Accounting Department by compiling financial statements, reviewing data, and ensuring financial compliance. Maintains financial records and assisting with the general operations of the accounting department.
Duties:
- Answers phones and responds to emails to assist customers
- Review financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance
- Prepare and file tax returns
- Enter accounting related information into business logs
- Organize and update financial records
- Recommend ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue
- Perform monthly bank settlements
- Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering and sorting documents and related information.
- Pays invoices by verifying transaction information; scheduling and preparing disbursements; obtaining authorization of payment.
- Obtains revenue by verifying transaction information; computing charges and refunds; preparing and mailing invoices; identifying delinquent accounts and insufficient payments
- Collects revenue by reminding delinquent accounts, notifying customers of insufficient payments.
- Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Maintains accounting ledgers by posting account transactions.
- Verifies accounts by reconciling statements and transactions for efficiency and accuracy
- Resolves account discrepancies by investigating documentation, issuing stop payments, payments, or adjustments.
- Maintains financial security by following internal accounting controls.
- Secures financial information by completing data base backups.
- Maintains financial historical records by filing accounting documents.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
- At least two years' experience in accounting or a related field with strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports with a strong understanding of US tax regulations
- Effective oral and written communication skills needed
- Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in high-energy, fast-paced environment and work independently
- Attention to detail is critical
