Job Description
Reports to the Practice Manager and works under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Clinic Coordinator. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clerical and patient care duties. Responsibilities include assisting the provider in support of medical care, phlebotomy and laboratory duties, answering the telephone with triage, admitting and discharging patients, dispensing medication and pharmacy duties, medical records and data entry, front office administrative duties including referrals and prior authorizations.

Performs routine clerical duties in accordance with established policies and procedures by:
- •Receiving and greeting all patients and visitors in a professional manner and providing allreasonable assistance.
- Receiving telephone calls and taking and relaying messages accurately.
- Obtaining information from the patient to accurately establish the patient's electronic medicalrecord and prepare for applicable appointment.
- Maintaining patient files, charts, and records.
- Performing medication and radiology prior authorization as insurance directs.
- Sending all relevant patient referrals
- Scanning and directing all patient medical records into patient charts
- Assist in pharmacy medication pick up orders with patient signature regulations
Performs patient care duties as directed by the provider or nurse by:
- •Recording medical history.
- Preparing patient for examination.
- Assisting provider and/or nurse with minor emergency or surgical procedures.
- Performing EKG as order
- Performing phlebotomy and all lab services as ordered and process in the laboratory according toprotocol.
- Administering and recording medication and injections as ordered.
- Dispensing and filling medication prescriptions according to pharmacy protocol with in housedispensing system with provider order.
- Interpreting physician's instructions to patients and providing instruction and education to patients.
- Checking and maintaining supply of stock to exam rooms and laboratory.
- Cleaning and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
- Scheduling office or hospital procedures and appointments.
- Triaging patient calls to determine urgency and direct patient care for clinic appointment scheduling.
- Managing and adjusting medication dosage under the direction of a provider and following up onpatient compliance.
- Preloading patient information into department specific EMR- including demographic information,diagnostic testing, health maintenance, medications, and past surgical history.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overalleffectiveness of the department by:
- Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
- Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program or equivalent work experience with successful completion of the Certification Exam.
- Previous medical office experience and the ability to speak and write Spanish are desired.
- High emphasis on phlebotomy experience.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in performing patient care procedures, observations,treatments and techniques utilized by facility.
- Requires ability to perform vena puncture.
- Demonstrates high level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary to consistently receive andgreet visitors, clients, and staff members in a professional manner.
- Demonstrates well developed communication skills to communicate effectively and clearly to a variety ofinternal and external contacts.
- Requires knowledge of office procedures and computer skills.
- Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to solve patient problems and interpret data.
- Promotes collaboration and innovation in the clinical services to ensure an interdisciplinary approach toimproving health care delivery and the quality of patient care.
- Requires ability to perform EKG's and other procedures applicable to the practice.
Working Conditions
- Works in a physician office, warehouse, and manufacturing plant environments
- May require lifting or positioning of patients.
- Travel is required
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
