Job Description

Behavior Intervention Specialists – Late Night - assist in maintaining a safe, healthy and therapeutic environment. They are trained to use approved verbal and behavioral interventions and strategies proven to be effective in helping today’s youth safely work through crisis situations and return to normal programming.

Qualifications:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent required; Associate's Degree (or at least 60 college credits) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health or related field preferred.
  2. Minimum one year experience working with a similar population.
  3. Must possess basic personal computer knowledge and skills.
  4. Valid driver’s license, SCM certification, CPR/First Aid certification required.
  5. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Job Duties:

  1. Promote a healthy and therapeutically safe environment for both youth and KidsPeace associates during late night hours.
  2. Successfully recognize and intervene in the pre-crisis phase of conflict to return to normal functioning and mitigate risk.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of, and effectively assist in, the carrying out of all emergency preparedness plans and procedures during the late night hours.
  4. Successfully de-escalate clients in crisis using both verbal and non-verbal techniques.
  5. Assist in directing childcare staff in the center to ensure safety and appropriate monitoring of clients.
  6. Help promote a culture of safety and non-violence within programs by modeling the use of restraints only during times of imminent risk where less restrictive measures were ineffective.
  7. Fully perform restraints as necessary when ordered by a licensed professional using the current approved KidsPeace restraint methodology on youth who may weigh in excess of 250 pounds and who are verbally or physically threatening or otherwise presenting a threat to themselves.
  8. Assess the acuity on a house/center and determine the need for additional support and know how to access that support.
  9. Mentor new and tenured staff in both positive and strength-based approaches to develop therapeutic environments.
  10. Complete the designated trainings selected from the GROVO platform on an annual basis to increase knowledge of alternative interventions and positive milieu management.
  11. Assist other centers in their times of need and support as determined by supervision.
