Job Description

Senior Electrical / Hardware Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Electrical / Hardware Engineer based in the United States.

This is a fully remote opportunity focused on sustaining and modernizing safety-critical avionics hardware.
You’ll tackle complex electronic component obsolescence challenges across aerospace and defense programs.
The role combines FPGA and digital hardware engineering with DMSMS analysis and avionics certification expertise.
You’ll help design replacement solutions, refresh legacy technologies, and maintain long-term product availability and airworthiness.
Working across hardware, systems, software, certification, and program teams, you’ll influence technical decisions from analysis through implementation.
The environment is highly collaborative, technically demanding, and centered on mission-critical engineering where quality and reliability matter.
It’s an opportunity to apply deep engineering expertise to challenging programs while continuing to grow alongside innovative technologies.

Accountabilities:
  • Perform DMSMS assessments to identify obsolete or at-risk electronic components and evaluate their impact on product availability and sustainment.
  • Develop mitigation strategies, including alternate component selection, technology refreshes, FPGA redesigns, and Last Time Buy recommendations.
  • Design FPGA-based replacements for obsolete ASICs, CPLDs, PLDs, and discrete logic using appropriate development methodologies and tools.
  • Develop and maintain qualified replacement Bills of Material and assess the technical suitability of alternate components.
  • Support schematic updates, PCB design reviews, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC considerations, and hardware verification activities.
  • Evaluate design and interface impacts against avionics standards and certification requirements, including DO-254, DO-160, ARP4754A, and ARP4761.
  • Support laboratory testing, hardware integration, troubleshooting, configuration management, and engineering change implementation.
  • Produce certification-quality engineering documentation and communicate technical recommendations clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support ASIC-related design activities and FPGA technology refresh initiatives when required.
  • Collaborate across hardware, systems, software, certification, and program teams to ensure engineering solutions meet performance, safety, and airworthiness objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in FPGA development or embedded hardware engineering, ideally within aerospace, defense, avionics, or another safety-critical environment.
  • Hands-on FPGA development experience with at least one major toolset such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or Microchip Libero.
  • Proficiency with VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience working with DO-254 and DO-160 requirements or related avionics certification activities.
  • Strong knowledge of digital electronics, PCB design reviews, signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Experience with avionics or embedded communication interfaces such as ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, PCIe, SPI, I²C, CAN, or UART.
  • Understanding of DMSMS, electronic component obsolescence, replacement component evaluation, and technology refresh strategies is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with FPGA technology refresh, ASIC-to-FPGA redesign, or replacement of obsolete digital logic is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ARP4754A, ARP4761, FACE architecture, or commercial and military avionics development environments is a plus.
  • Experience supporting systems such as flight displays, mission computers, navigation systems, flight controls, radar, engine controls, UAV/UAS platforms, or space electronics is desirable.
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required, and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring employment sponsorship.
Benefits:
  • Compensation: $80–$85 USD per hour, with the full compensation package determined by experience and certifications.
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  • Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, life, and disability coverage.
  • Professional Development: Certification assistance and opportunities to expand technical expertise and advance your career.
  • Work Model: Fully remote position based in the United States.
  • Work Environment: Flexible, collaborative, and people-focused culture supporting innovation, teamwork, and work-life balance.
  • Impact: Opportunity to contribute to next-generation aerospace and defense programs involving safety- and mission-critical technologies.
