JOB TITLE: Assistant Aquatics Manager
FSLA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Full Time
HOURS: Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Hours Vary; occasional Saturdays
SALARY RANGE: $21.00 – $28.00/hour based on job duties and experience.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Aquatics Manager
SUPERVISES: Aquatics instructors and consumers in the Pool area.
BASIC FUNCTIONS: This position exists to assist the Aquatics Manager with the entire aquatics program, perform facility aquatics maintenance and supervise the aquatics instructors. Communicates with program managers regarding consumer scheduling and progress. Lifeguards, and teaches classes in the pool.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, this position will promote and assist with operations of a private aquatic facility and the safety program for SMSC. To include but not limited to:
- All pool chemistry and pool maintenance
- In the absence of Aquatics Manager supervise Aquatics instructors and all aquatics programs.
- Instruct aquatic classes.
- Assure a safe working environment is maintained
- Administer first aid, rescue breathing and CPR.
- Assist Aquatics manager with the coaching and organization of swim team practices, swim meets and events.
- Maintain a close working relationship with management
- Responsible to report all accident/injuries as required in writing including all suspected adult abuse as well as discrimination and/or harassment.
- Maintain professional boundaries with consumers
- Attend all staff meetings as scheduled
- Responsible for becoming familiar with SMSC’s policies and procedures and maintaining proper program confidentiality
- Follow all applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the Lanterman Act Title 17 and Title 22 of the State of California And Regional Center standards.
- Responsible for performing other tasks as required and directed by Aquatics Manager and/or Director of Programs to meet program guidelines and safety.
- Work on the floor when required due to staffing shortages for participants’ health and safety.
- Expected to provide appropriate personal care to program participants based on individual needs, i.e. assisting with personal hygiene tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of water hazards; pool safety and aquatic instructional activities for all ages; Principles of supervision and training, Principles and techniques of swimming, lifesaving and first aid; appropriate safety precautions and procedures; proper water chemistry; Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, computer skills and basic mathematics; public relations techniques; proper methods of maintaining pool equipment, deck, and locker rooms. Ability to: perform proper rescue techniques; administer CPR and First Aid; react quickly, calmly and exercise good judgment in emergency situations; work cooperatively with others and maintain detailed and accurate reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
Productivity: Must perform work in an efficient, effective, and timely manner without constant supervision and must react to change productively. Incumbents are expected to be in attendance and prepared to perform the duties of the position. Heavy Work: Position in this class performs work which may involve lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects, which may weigh 50 lbs. or more. Mobility: Position will require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach, pull, push, bend, lift and carry. Must be able to swim and perform lifesaving skills. Vision: Must have vision to distinguish objects at no less than 75 yards. Hearing: Must be able to hear conversations and calls from no less than 75 yards. Verbal: Must be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner face to face, over the phone with members of the public and co-workers. Other Conditions: Required to work with hazardous chemicals and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Work evening and weekends when required. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Mandatory Requirements: Desire and experience working with developmentally/ intellectually disabled individuals in an Aquatics setting. AA degree or a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the adaptive aquatics industry. Must possess a valid driver’s license and the following American Red Cross certifications: Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional rescuer. Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) which must be submitted at time of application. In addition:
- Must be able to conform to applicable laws, rules and regulations pertaining to Title 17 and Title 22 of the State of California
- Ability to be flexible and embrace change
- Must be able to read, write and understand English
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol tests
- Must complete a pre-employment health screening/TB test
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required criminal records clearance
- Clean DMV Report, and 12 months of licensed driving experience; if under 25 years of age, must also obtain a Motor Vehicle Record waiver from the organization’s insurance company
- Must have a current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or complete an in-house training course. This certification must be updated every two years
