POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Outside Machinist
REPORTS TO: Foreman
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
FT / PT STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: Shipyard(s) & Customer Facilities- Jacksonville, FL
SUMMARY
Remove, repair, overhaul, install and align main propulsion machinery and associated equipment/components. Also remove, repair, overhaul, install and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps, various types of valves, cargo handling machinery, anchor handling gear, boat davits, cranes, elevators, conveyors, firefighting equipment, machine shop equipment, galley, and laundry equipment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament.
- Install, adjust, set, and repair or replaces various control/regulating or safety devices such as meters, gages, valves, governors and automatic alarms. Test or assist in testing of shipboard machinery pierside or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.
- Outside machinist Installs ship machinery, for example propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gear, working from blueprints and using handtools, calipers, and micrometers.
- Installs below-deck auxiliaries, for example evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers and connects them to steampipe systems.
- Tests and inspects installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent mechanical skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form including but not limited to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals
- Ability to collaborate with team members for productivity and efficiency
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of a vocational/technical school or apprenticeship program is a plus
- 1+ year of experience of related experience
- OSHA 10 Maritime Standards (Company may provide)
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights, confined spaces, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
- Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50+ pounds (50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly)
- Lifting includes from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, waist to overhead
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- May be required to wear a respirator
- Some travel may be required
